MKG shouldn't let this happen. Nevertheless twice.
it wasnt all MKG's fault. he played good defense for the most part. our plan is to allow our wings to single cover guys like lebron, durant, melo etc...and turn them into jumpshooters as much as possible and especially for guys like lebron, to not let them become playmakers for their team. lebron was taking the shots that we wanted him to take (long jumpers), same as melo in that other game. when you dont double superstars and they catch fire, then occasionally this happens. more often than not, allowing MKG to single cover his man and allowing jefferson to stay at home in the paint has worked. last night, it was a disaster.
clifford should have started doubling lebron earlier once it was obvious he was hot. he left MKG on an island for too long. it wasnt until late in the 3rd when zeller started coming over to help.
we also didnt alter our strategy when jefferson's man (anderson) was setting screens out past the 3pt line allowing lebron a wide open jumper or a clear path to the lane.
blame percentage summary60% lebron catching fire from deep (which is exactly the shots most teams want him to take)
20% our strategy of not helping MKG defensively (which usually works)
15% jefferson's inability to help on pick and roll defense
3% bad defense by tolliver to allow lebron to catch fire
2% bad defense by MKG for failing to put out the fire
