Tim Hardaway Jr. looking like a steal

Post#1 » by DCintheD » Thu Mar 13, 2014 6:58 am

He's been dominating off the bench lately especially from 3 point range. Helping Knicks win too.

KCP where u at??

These two should be compared their entire careers. As of now one's a steal and one's a reach, wouldn't label him a bust tho

Hardaway has been extremely inconsistent, 10.0ppg on 8.3 shots and he does nothing else to help his team, he's also a year older. I'll take KCP.

One is a steal because expectations were low...and easier to surpass.

Regardless of how KCP turns out he will never be a reach. He was going Lotto even if we passed.

It's too soon to pass judgement on rookies though. One season is not a career

I've said it before and will probably say it again, we could have traded down with Utah (instead of Minny doing it) and walked away with Giannis AND THJR.

It looks like Joe has finally accomplished being shown the door, but it's 8 months out and painfully obvious how badly he blew last summer.

Guess that depends on what you mean by "lately". He's had 2 good games in a row. In the last 10, he's scoring 12 ppg on 38% shooting with a whopping 0.5 assists in 28 mpg. He can clearly fill it up when his shot is falling, so he'll have a bench roll for years to come. Beyond that? He really hasn't shown anything that would make me think he's destine for a larger role.

Shooting 43% from the field and 37% from 3 on a disfunctional Knicks team that doesn't share the ball. His defense is somewhat lacking, but literally nobody on the Knicks plays a lick of defense anyway. He is definetely a steal considering where he was drafted, and the overall weakness of this draft class makes him look even better. Has a chance to be a first team rookie (provided that he doesn't get jammed out by the whole position basis thing). Right now I would have the first team rookie awards like:

Burke
MCW
Oladipo
THJr
Olynyk

This is provided that the team isn't based off positions. I remember the NBA no longer requiring a center to be on the team a few years ago, but I don't know if they require a certain amount of forwards or guards.

edit: I just noticed, but aside from Oladipo, everyone in contention for the rookie first team were drafted outside of the top 10. A truly horrible draft class.

KCP should be judged by what KCP does (which isn't much so far). If this is just another player comparison for entertainment's sake, I don't think you'll find many people outside this forum that prefer KCP.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

If KCP was on another team, fans here would call him a reach and possibly a bust. Just sayin. If he is going to make it in the NBA over the course of his rookie contract, that all depends on his own personal motivation to get better.

I've seen the same trade with Jennings instead of Jerebko and Singler.

KCP is outperforming the #1 pick. By comparison we got great value, right?

Hindsight is always 20/20. Obviously, we'd be much happier with Hardaway Jr and Giannis at this point. Most teams would prefer to have both of them over their draft picks as well.

I heard KCP do a radio interview the day Utah was in town. The interviewer asked his feeling about some people wanting Burke here over him. He seemed completely oblivious to the question and had no idea why anyone would compare the two of them here. He then proceeded to go out that night and do nothing while Burke lit it up. That was all I needed to know about KCP.....next.

Hopefully he figures things out but right now he's attached to a franchise thats not going to help him do that so he's pretty much on his own.

I only compare the two cuz they play the same position and are similar in size and skillset. Anthony Bennett, for the #1 overall pick, is a bust, unless he becomes a superstar at some point in his career which I cannot see.
KCP is not a bust but THJR has out produced him and looks like the better value pick. I still love the KCP pick but he needs to improve his game tremendously.

TH Jr is avg'ing 10 ppg, 1 reb per game & 1 assist per game this year.

You just said he was "dominating off the bench"

If by "dominating off the bench" you mean has had 2 good games recently than yes, he is dominating off the bench.
