I was about to ask what separates Wiggins from Gay coming out of college. They're very, very similar.
What you're describing (prime Gay + elite D) is probably Wiggins' ceiling, not floor. That's a top 10 player and perennial all-star.

Re: Will Andrew wiggins be a great player in the NBA?
It will take Wiggins 2 or 3 seasons at bare minimum to acquire the skills to even become a first option on offense, if ever. At his age, learning ballhandling/playmaking almost from scratch, which is what he'd be trying to do, is extremely rare. Watch any Kansas game this year, and pick any player on the floor on either team at random, other than Wiggins. Chances are that that random player has better handles and coordination with the ball than Wiggins, even if you happened to pick a freshman.

I see Wiggins as a Top 5 NBA player in 3 years.
He looks like a future beast on defense. Not sure if he will be as good as Jimmy Butler but still.![]()
He doesn't look like a KD type scorer but he should get his 22 points in his prime.
He is fast and athletic. Should be entertaining to watch him play.
He'll need more than 22 points per and Jimmy Butler D to be a top 5 player.
Paul George isn't a top 5 player?
Not even close.

I just don't see the willingness to take over a game, maybe it's just the product of the system. I guess Wiggins could thrive in the secondary position until he develops his game.

Wiggins was atrocious today.
I'm beginning to think that this draft class is overrated. Every player in the draft has significant questions.
Embiid- injury prone.
Wiggins- not enough basketball skills
Parker- not athletic enough
It gets worse from there.

Agreed. I'd take Randle over all of them. His kentucky supporting guys are awful and he still produces.

A's over Royals. Lester and experience will prove that he's worth the trade.
Tigers winning it all. Tigers are, imo, peaking at the right time.

I remember when westbrook came out, sports guy said he's all nba defense right now. He has the tools and can be elite, but first options usually take time off on defense...

I guarantee Parker will never be as good as Anthony. Kobe and Lebron were way better in high school than Wiggins is now.
But go ahead and save this thread. I guess we'll see in a few years.

nah. he'd have to improve his ball skills and 1 on 1 ability tremendously and he'd have to become a completely different player in terms of temperament to become what rudy has offensively.
sounds more like a more realistic comparison than a worse case scenario.

Stunning how underwhelming this putative GOAT draft has been. It's comical watching these guys and comparing them to Davis in '12.

I'm struggling to come up with anything tangible that makes Andrew Wiggins more impressive than Terrence Ross besides 2 inches of height.

Re: Will Andrew wiggins be a great player in the NBA?
Kansas doesn't use Wiggins right. They should be working to get him the ball more early in the offense or having more movement in their offense but instead they just let him float on the three point line. Even keeping him in the post would've been good against the zone today. College basketball is a bit different with a smaller court, the style of play is meant for jump shooters. Kansas has no real good play makers to help Wiggins out either.

He was supposed to BE the playmaker to help the others out.
