Like Boston had to get it worked out when they added KG, PP, and RA, BRK got a slow start. Plus they have been injured a lot. But you have to have the team organized around PP as the leader. Its just who he is.

The Truth will go into the HOF for sure. One of the best SF of his era. Kind of gets under appreciated.

I had BRK ranked 2nd best in the conference to start the year and a title contender. If they had Lopez, they would be a real handful. Actually, I might look to trade Lopez for Al Jefferson. That might even be better.

This team is real close, but they are running against father time. Someone like T Handsborough or Gooden for Dray and Lopez or Al Jefferson at center and wow. But even as is, I wouldn't want to face them in the playoffs. Not sure if they can get it done this year but they should make things interesting for a few rounds.

No one knows really, its been a game to game thing. I think the Nets are trying to let that back heal up as much as possible heading into April.

Wonder what Kevin's status is. If need be, let him take a few more off to continue to rest that back.

not concerned... boston doesnt have size and i like the minutes and floor balance plumlee is giving us right now. let KG rest until he is 110%

I agree with your last sentence even though it gives the Bobcats a chance to catch the Nets but that first sentence - I guess you were passed out during the last Celtics game or my sarcasm detector is broken?

Exculpatory might like this

“He’s been great,” said Johnson, who wasn’t too shabby last night with 27 points. “Putting him at the 4 is an advantage for us, even though there may be games where we get outrebounded. We need to help him a little more, but he keeps the floor spaced.

“He’s crafty. He’s wise. He’s been in every situation you can think of. He’s helped us out tremendously — not just on the court, but off the court in talking to guys and keeping guys in the right spots. He’s been a great leader for us.

“He’s sacrificed a lot, and we appreciate it.”

Great stuff! Thanks.

im fine holding him out until the playoffs..... maybe play him the last 2-3 games before the playoffs for a tune up to shake of the rust. its not costing us games and plumlee is getting valuable developmental minutes with the first unit.

i see no need to bring him back right now, even if healthy.

Official Pierce & KG Thread

Post#172 » by exculpatory » Mon Mar 31, 2014 12:58 pm

For anyone who is interested in the recent exploits of the third greatest Celtic of all time, the Truth has been freaking spectacular, has become the primary leader of the Nets & is one of the major reasons that the Nets have posted the best record in the EC in CY 2014 (29-12) & why the Nets are seriously competing for the 3/4 seeds with a 39-33 record.

In ONLY 26 minutes on 3/30/14: 22 on 8-11 & 5-8 from 3 & 16 points in Q1.
In ONLY 20 minutes on 3/28/14: 22 on 5-6 from 3 & 17 points in Q1.
That's right - 22 on 6 FGAs & 22 on 11 FGAs in consecutive games in limited minutes. UNREAL Truth-like efficiency!

3/2014: 16 games - ONLY 8.6 FGA/game & 26.6 mpg
14.6 ppg on 51.1%/46.7% & 69.2 TS% & ORating 118

Since 12/1/2013: 52 games - ONLY 9.4 FGA/game & 28.1 mpg
14.1 ppg on 47.3%/41.7% & 62.7 TS% & ORating 111

Entire 2013-2014 season: 67 games - ONLY 9.6 FGA/game & 28.3 mpg
13.7 ppg on 44.8%/38.6% & 59.7 TS% & ORating 107

These are All Star offensive numbers for his 67 game season & >All Star offensive numbers for the 52 games he has played since 12/1/2013 (AFTER his fractured shooting hand had healed) - simply astonishing at age 36 1/2 - even for a first ballot HOFER! The only reason that he is not scoring 18+ ppg is because his mpg, FGAs & usage % have been significantly decreased - a very wise 'concession' to age by JKidd intended to preserve his legs for the POs. Paul has also scored a dominant 18 to 33 points in 17 of the 67 games he has played (~1 in 4 or ~25% of his games).

PS Paul only needs 59 points in the final 10 games to reach 25K points (#18 All Time). He will easily jump up to #14 All Time during the 2014-2015 season, & pass Havlicek during the 2015-2016 season.

PPS Prokhorov will offer him a final 2 year deal at 10 mill per year this summer - because Paul STILL is worth that much. Even if Ainge was willing to match that offer (which I very much doubt will happen because Ainge wants to preserve cap space for the ongoing rebuild), I also doubt that Paul would accept. Paul has very much adapted to his new team/new city, the BK fan base chants his freaking name now, & he will give them 2 more very high quality years before he retires.

this is what I was saying early on. while Pierce and Johnson are unselfish and capable of playing off the ball, they really arent the same players as when you run offense through them and ask them to be aggressive. JJ isa great catch and shoot player, but he is going to disappear if you just make him that. when you get him involved in early offense and in the post he does damage. Its the biggest reason why we are so much better without lopez... it allows everyon else to be more aggressive and play their game isntead of deferring.

I had BRK ranked 2nd best in the conference to start the year and a title contender. If they had Lopez, they would be a real handful. Actually, I might look to trade Lopez for Al Jefferson. That might even be better.

i think we would be sub .500 if lopez were still here. we wouldnt be playing small as often our defense would suffer, we'd have even bigger rebounding issues and the ball would stick on offense. brook going down was a huge blessing in disguise for this team. not only for this year, but it allows us to trade him and get something back

there is 0 chance pierce gets a 2 year deal here. and if he did it would rival the wallace trade. we would basically be throwing away any chance we have at getting under the tax, throwing away any chance at love, and thorwing away any chance at a sign and trade should durant be move prior to his free agency

it would be catastrophic.

i can see 1 year at 15M. that would make sense. 2 year would be a horrific move that sets the franchise back a few years

What about 2 years with the first year front loaded - 15 in year 1 & 5 in year 2?

Here's how I feel: If the Nets bomb in the playoffs this year, and end up losing in the first round, Pierce will go to a team like the Clippers, and team up with Doc Rivers, CP3, and Griffin. KG might actually ask for a trade to the Clippers as well. It was between us and them originally, and they couldn't acquire the two of them before.

If we do end up competing this year though, and say we make a run at the conference finals...I think Pierce would be willing to stay and see if we had one more year left in us. KG might honor his contract and stay for the final year as well.

So I can see either Pierce leaving, or I would think the Nets would try to really sell him on a 1-year, "let's try this one more time" type of deal. And if we suck during that season, we can trade him to a contender of his choice. KG too, if that's what he wants.

Either way, I honestly think the Nets might be ok with letting Pierce walk rather than give him 2 years. They want to keep their salary as low as possible during the 2015-2016 season, in order to allow for S&Ts.

Pierce needs to start backing up some of that trash talk with the knicks.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
