If he was 6'4 and 220lbs and offered more then just being a bomb threat then fine. But at 5'9 and 170 lbs he is fragile. And besides his numbers this year will drop off dramatically with RG3 throwing the ball and with that offensive line. Chip made him look better then what he is. When you have the best RB in the league teams played up in the box to stop the running game. Teams desperately tried taking McCoy away. With that DeSean excelled. LeSean was more feared then DeSean.
I'd say his contract was pretty fair for what he brought... and it's not like that money is going to be going anywhere else this year. He's a guy that has incredible speed that converts on big plays and creates space for the other guys on the field.
Bottom line, we are a better football team with him on the field than without him. I don't think the offense is going to go in a tailspin or anything, but you're taking away a pretty big weapon, handing him to a division rival, and getting nothing back in return.
He was the 5th highest paid receiver this year before he was released. No way deserving this much compared to the elite receivers. He isn't elite. But I am sure the Eagles will draft another player and also utilize Sproles in the slot that will cause even more mismatches in the secondary . Also Zach Ertz will be a pro bowl TE in the near future. DeSean is now currently the 14th highest paid receiver under his new contract.
