I'd prefer trading Barnes over Klay, but Steph/Iggy/Barnes (or Green  )/Love/Bogut does result in some interesting thoughts for what they could do together.

So the Nets and Kings get starting caliber players but all we get is bench players(Outlaw and Terry are trash now). I can't see the Pistons doing it. We're not really hurting in the cap space department either.

You're against every Smoove trade that I can remember. He LOST games last year. He is older than the core. His fit here is highly questionable.

Jennings for Jason Thompson is fine. Possibly flat-out good. Possibly for both teams.

Turning Smoove into 2 expirings while opening up summer cap? That is GREAT. Terry and Outlaw might even be bought out, but the extra cap could land us a nice player like Hinrich or Dunleavy or Ariza.

Detroit will have 2 max bigs in 2 years and KCP/Singler/8th/GuyWeTradeFor will need raises sooner or later.

There is no team in the league that can spend intelligently with the reason being that "we're not really hurting in the cap space department." It makes more sense to say Smoove is our new Villanueva - that he loses games by being on the roster.

Not really bro. I remember I agreed with these trades involving Smith:
Smith for Rudy Gay
Smith for Jeff Green
Smith for Hayward(I forgot the entire deal)

Why waste cap space on Hinrich, Dunleavy and Ariza when they all suck( ). Ariza was only good because he's playing for a new contract. And Smith is no where near the caliber player CV was. That's just silly man.

I would definitely be in favor of this trade. Of course, Houston is gunning for Kevin Love right now, so they wouldn't even entertain this deal until after Love's situation is resolved.

Nice proposal.

Thanks. This thought up trade was the reason I made an account lol.

Smith to Houston is an obvious option

But apparently Houston want to try and get Melo or Love this off-season...

If and when the Rockets lose out on Melo and Love, we should be able to move Asik for Smith straight up

Morey looks hell bent on getting a 3rd star though. Whilst Houston were apparently interested in Josh during FA, I doubt that Morey sees him as a 'star'.

Maybe they don't see him as a star. but when they don't get Love or Melo maybe they'll want Smith. The Rockets have to make a change if they want to make it out of the 1st round.

They definitely could have used Smith to guard Aldridge in that series. That would be my major selling point.

DET sends: Smith, #8 pick in draft

CHA sends: DET 2015 1st returned (it's top 1 protected)

No contracts back - pure cap space for Detroit
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

You always put good trades which seems legit, but Smith can produce under the right coach and give an 8 pick of one of the stronger drafts ever it's so bad for us, specially when you get nothing.

Good point. However, the Houston front office is savvy and very reliant upon analytics (which make Smith look even worse), I doubt they make a desperation move for Smith. Look how much time they spent acquiring assets to deal for a superstar (Harden).

so we give up a 1st rounder to get rid of the player who costed us the 1st rounder that we receive? can't see any of the pistons brass being on board with that. i'd rather hold out for a better smith deal.

I'm as irritated with Josh Smith as anyone, but I do believe he has net positive value. He's a bonehead, but he's physically fine and has played far better than this for the last five years.

SVG might be right -- we may need to showcase him, with a real defensive system, playing off the bench, and then move him on. Or, maybe we can get something decent now if we look for the right deal.

agreed. he's an albatross, and i want him off the team ASAP, but i rest much easier knowing that the stan van will steer him in the right direction.

Smith played awful this last year, but some people here are losing themselves.

16 points 7 rebounds 3 assists playing out of his position with an awful coach and a stupid GM who said him he was a star and he was going to be our franchise player, so he got go-head to shoot.

How about something easy...

Jennings/#8 for Afflalo/#12.

We move back in a draft with decent PG talent and can still grab one of Napier, Enis, Levine at 12.
Orlando gets a starting point and moves up in the draft to fill a roster spot with a little better talent.

Not really sexy, but solves the need for a wing. It also removes Jennings. I think I like this:

Enis
KCP
Afflalo
Smith
Drummond

Better than this:

Jennings
KCP
McDermott
Smith
Drummond

Okay, good. :)
I want Smoove gone. Although, I could conceive of a revamped Pistons roster that he would look good in, I guess.

But, Hinrich, Dunleavy do not suck in their roles. Ariza would probably be overpaid, so I'm not that interested in him. How about Anthony Morrow on the cheap? I think SVG might get him in the rotation rainin' treys on people.

Anywho...it did strike me a few times (at least) that you crapped on Smoove trades. Remember, it's not just his skill, but that he overrates himself and will probably decline athletically by the end of this contract.

Return to Detroit Pistons
