Size and athleticism are God given gifts and if a player is lacking in those departments then no matter how hard they try or learn defensive concepts, they will be exposed. Desire, hustle, motor all factor into it as well and that's why you try to gauge that on a prospect. Some guys just don't care.

That said, lacking defense doesn't stop someone from NBA stardom. Nor does defense alone make you a star.

Skin do you plan on making a thread for Exum similar to your giant "My case for Trey Burke" thread so I have something to revisit and smh at next offseason? Did I miss it? If so,id like to bookmark that one too.

If there's one thing about me that I don't care about it's being wrong. I love debates, I love putting my thoughts out there and I love supporting my points. Don't we all?

That said, I thought Burke put together a pretty good rookie season. 12 ppg, 6/2 assist to TO ratio, 33% from 3. Not bad at all. I wanted Burke in a trade down and Oladipo at 2. Especially got excited when Dipo was going to be tried as a PG.

You know I hated Jameer all these years... cause you hate whenever I bash him. Heck, I even had hopes that that Westbrook kid would've beat him out! HA HA HA! You know how badly I want to fix the PG position. I think I will keep supporting the top PG prospect until we finally get one! Last year it was Burke, this year Exum... and before that... psh... Otis hadn't left us with a draft pick in years. So if we don't end up drafting a PG this year, then the search will go on!

But back to your question... I already made a thread for Exum back in Feb. Wasn't as comprehensive as that Burke one at all, but it was my "A ha" moment when I figured out he was the guy I wanted most in this draft. Here it is!

The safer pick is Smart, the home-run swing pick is Exum. There are no other picks IMO. The top 3 will be gone, and I wouldn't take Randle or Vonleh at #4.

It's either Exum or Smart for me at the 4th pick, Randle and Vonleh just doesn't do it for me at that spot. I would be extremely happy with either Exum or Smart and i think both would be ready to contribute right away with Smart a tad bit more ready because of his NBA ready frame. Smart and Oladipo in the backcourt would be a defensive nightmare for opposing teams. Exum i think would turn this team into an up-tempo "run other teams out of the gym" kind of team, the guy just flies down the court. Can't lose either way imo

I agree, Exum or Smart for sure (unless Jabari, Andrew, or Joel slip to us).

I remember watching that 30/30 show on the Bad Boys Pistons. Isaiah and Laimbeer were not good friends. They didn't hang out or had anything personally in common with the exception that they were super intense competitors. They both wanted to win at all costs. That was it. They both admit it. Heck, they left each other on bad notes. Isaiah punching Laimbeer. But, they respected the hell out of each other and would go to war for each other. This is what I want. Intense competitors who battle to the end. This is why I like players like Smart and Randle. True heart and hustle win at all costs type of players. This is why someone like Randle can lead a team to the finals. May not be the best player, but does all that he can to play on a championship team.

What championship big man does Randle remind you of?

Reminds me of Randolph. But, he did lead his team to the final 64. That is the heart of a champion right there. All heart and hustle blue collar.

i too see more of a comparison for Gordon to Marion than Blake in style and play.
