What am I saying is the situation in Sacramento would be much more suitable for him to play in. We have Demarcus Cousins, the most dominant center in the league, offensively, and run our offense through him. Atlanta didn't have that. Their offense was primarily Joe Johnson and Josh Smith throwing up shots. It's why Rudy Gay was a better player in Memphis than in Toronto and why he played better here in Sac.
His last 5 seasons...
2012-2013 - 1st FGA for Atlanta
2011-2012 - 1st FGA for Atlanta
2010-2011 - 2nd FGA for Atlanta
2009-2010 - 3rd FGA for Atlanta
2008-2009 - 3rd FGA for Atlanta
I'm saying...good luck in trying to make Josh Smith accept and be happy with having less shots and having a smaller role in the offense. Josh Smith will want to be the first or second option on offense...as he has wanted for the majority of his career.

Secondly, Rudy Gay is presumably picking up his player option, he would be gone after one season. Josh Smith would still be signed for 2 more years, not that huge of a deal. Even if it didn't work out and we had another poor season, there's no way it hurts Cousins' trade value. As a young, dominant center, there will always be a team out there willing to give us a solid return for him.
Let's assume we trade Carl Landry and Jason Terry for Josh Smith. Are we still resigning Isaiah? If Gay doesn't opt out...then we won't even come close to affording a roster of Gay/Smith/DeMarcus...so this entire conversation is pointless. (In fact if Gay doesn't opt out...odds are we won't be able to resign Isaiah or add anyone else to the roster without dumping Landry/Thompson for cap space).
Let's say Gay and Isaiah are resigned to multi-year deals. Gay was viewed as one of the worst contracts in the league at the start of this season...if he regresses again...his value will plummet back to where it was at the start of the season. If we are able to trade Carl Landry + Jason Terry for Josh Smith...and the team doesn't work...then what happens to his trade value? Absolutely zero. DeMarcus? Of course he will still have some value...but it will be damaged. We might view DeMarcus as a promising young center...others will view him as a player with questionable character problems and chucking tendencies.
