What a great episode. As a book reader, I have come to grips that things are really changing now within the story (not the plot). I love how they kept the fight true to the books though. I was a little nervous earlier in the season when Oberyn mentioned that the Mountain cut Elia in half - I thought they might change how he died.

Everything else in the episode was pretty much different than the books, however, and Im actually starting to like it - its the same overall story but I dont know exactly whats coming next.

One thing I really thought they should have done, was get more into the background of the Red Viper. I dont want to say too much, because it probably comes into play next season as we learn more of the aftermath of the fight - but there is a lot about the Viper that they never discuss that was pretty important.

It is great seeing non-readers predictions, the best part about Martin - nobody knows who is safe at any time ...

I think its best that martin kill people the way he does. If not it would turn into an anime where the protagonist always wins. Oberyn was everything eveyrone liked, skilled, cocky, smooth, and he was killed so quickly. Man if i didn't get spoiled that would have been so weird, i would've been left thinking about it a lot. I mean it was so quicK. Once oberyn gets punched you think "maybe he'll surive", but then you see his face and you know its over.

He is on to something. It is almost like a subtle message from TPTB that the bad survive and all that is good eventually meets it's end.

Fun show, great writing, but it seems like it is turning into Breaking Bad, Medival Edition.
Right now it appears it's Arya's Breaking Bad, but Sansa has some ideas of her own.

Damn I was screaming at my TV for Oberyn to stop taunting and just finish him off. It was so damn obvious that was gonna happen the longer he dragged it on.

JR Smith could learn a lesson from this episode. Don't showboat just get the job done!

Haha actually I thought he was going to try and kill Tywin Lannister by throwing his spear at him or something like that. Oddly enough I didn't see it coming that Clegane would rise up from his wound. Damn I'm still so pissed about it...

On another note, it's great that this show is considered so unpredictable so far, but now it's getting kinda predictable that the "good" guys, or the ones we're generally rooting for are gonna get killed, so it would be good for these characters to have some kind of success at some point.

I hate to bring bad news but he didn't do all the scenes himself. His stunt doubles name is Liang Yang.

Yeah, until we get more clarification, I've decided to believe that the theory about

Spoiler:
Oberyn surreptitiously poisoning Tywin is correct. The evidence strongly supports it, and Oberyn gets his revenge against House Lannister, even in death! In fact if the theory is true, then Prince Oberyn almost single-handedly destroyed the Lannister power base.

Yeah that's what a lot of people say actually but it's more like the good guys fodder die so it sets the stark kids on their quest

Also the fair share of bad guys die too

book 6 will likely be out next year. apparently it is mostly done.
the real problem is books 7-8-9.....

Nothing is 'likely until the book isd announced. GRRM has been ultrasecretve about his progress, and as of January denied having even 1,000 manuscript pages done. His publisher has said this year is definitely not happening and they are hoping for next year, but remember what happened with Feast.

As for "8 and 9" that's just pure speculation on your part. He may fnish in 7, and hasn't said otherwise, although he admittedly has said he MAY not finish in 7.

it was a joke.
well, sort of.
as others have said, it is supposed to be a 7 books series,
and the consensus from other (dedicated) forums seems to be a fall 2015 deadline for book 6.

it's true that precedents are not good for him keeping by the deadlines, but that was before the tv series.
i think that will be a very large motivation to abide this time around.
he will want to keep the books ahead of the series for many reasons, the main ones being the necessity to maintain control on the events, and the economic aspects of the book making a lot more money if that is where fans find out what happens, and -especially- how it ends.

as far as the 7 books series. that is the stated length, but i personally doubt he will be able to wrap it up in just two more books.
i think originally the events in book 4 and 5 were mostly supposed to be part of a a single book, which was then split in two because it was too much.
this implies that he and already thought about enough material for 3 additional books.
given the expanding trend of size and scope of his books, i doubt he can condense the remaining events in two books. three seems more likely. or maybe book 7 will have two 'parts', to be published separately...

surprise! surprise!
don't say i didn't warn you :D:D:D
