Everything else in the episode was pretty much different than the books, however, and Im actually starting to like it - its the same overall story but I dont know exactly whats coming next.
One thing I really thought they should have done, was get more into the background of the Red Viper. I dont want to say too much, because it probably comes into play next season as we learn more of the aftermath of the fight - but there is a lot about the Viper that they never discuss that was pretty important.
It is great seeing non-readers predictions, the best part about Martin - nobody knows who is safe at any time ...

Nothing is 'likely until the book isd announced. GRRM has been ultrasecretve about his progress, and as of January denied having even 1,000 manuscript pages done. His publisher has said this year is definitely not happening and they are hoping for next year, but remember what happened with Feast.
As for "8 and 9" that's just pure speculation on your part. He may fnish in 7, and hasn't said otherwise, although he admittedly has said he MAY not finish in 7.

as others have said, it is supposed to be a 7 books series,
and the consensus from other (dedicated) forums seems to be a fall 2015 deadline for book 6.
it's true that precedents are not good for him keeping by the deadlines, but that was before the tv series.
i think that will be a very large motivation to abide this time around.
he will want to keep the books ahead of the series for many reasons, the main ones being the necessity to maintain control on the events, and the economic aspects of the book making a lot more money if that is where fans find out what happens, and -especially- how it ends.
as far as the 7 books series. that is the stated length, but i personally doubt he will be able to wrap it up in just two more books.
i think originally the events in book 4 and 5 were mostly supposed to be part of a a single book, which was then split in two because it was too much.
this implies that he and already thought about enough material for 3 additional books.
given the expanding trend of size and scope of his books, i doubt he can condense the remaining events in two books. three seems more likely. or maybe book 7 will have two 'parts', to be published separately...
