Re: Official #2 Pick Thread - Ford #7: Parker
The hype around Yao at the time was off the charts. He was already a star in China when he was drafted and was expected to bring the NBA to that country on a global scale. Hell, they made a movie about him when he was a rookie. I'd say the hype around Yao was greater than any prospect the NBA has seen in the last decade other than LeBron. And I'm not sure he's far behind LeBron when you factor in the international aura Yao carried with him.
Nothing will not break me.

I'm actually fine drafting Exum.

There's really a mixed bag of not so great prospects starting at #8. I can see why Sacramento wants out.

Exum will probably also be the most effective player from day one, don't you think?
I think so.
How do you think Exum compares to Austin Rivers the prospect?
DX Strengths of Rivers
"Absolute explosive first step", "gets to the line", "ball handling", intangibles "coaches son", "fierce competitor"
I know Exum has a few inches on the wing span, I think Rivers may have been considered a better shooter, but that comp scares me a bit, seeing how much Rivers struggled.

I don't see any similarities between the two whatsoever. Austin Rivers isn't even half the athlete that Exum is.
You're talking about a guy (Exum) who is basically a lock to go top 5 and comparing him to another guy (Rivers) that was a reach at #10 because of his last name...

Huh? Rivers is way more athletic than Exum. Exum's more finesse.

#3 + Young is a pretty ridiculous offer for #1. I would suspect CLE laughed them off the phone with that offer.

Combine measures of
AR - Max vert 37.5, Agility 11.4, Sprint 3.32
Ex - Max vert 34.5, Agility 10.7, Sprint 3.19
Similar strengths, build, measures, again, Exum is longer, but I don't know that Exum is a much better athlete

From Cleveland's perspective, any conversation the Sixers should want to have has to include both 3 and 10 as the starting points. If they weren't starting there it would be a very short call for me.

Cleveland isn't rebuilding, they are trying to make the playoffs

True but they need to maximize the value of the pick if they want to trade it.
Then again, these are the Cavs so ...

Exum's a much better playmaker/passer than Rivers. He also has better physical tools imo. Huge advantage in standing reach (6 inches) plus better quickness. I also think he has a higher BBIQ and is far craftier on offense eg, ability to post up on offense and score or set up others.

Ming was quite a good player when he was healthy.
I dont think the comp to Embiid is a good one though. Body types were drastically different.

Khris Middleton - Beating up on Trash Can Teams since 1943. Invisible Man status otherwise.

You're moving 2 spots in a 3-4 player draft, asking for another top 10 pick for that is an awful lot.

For the No. 1 pick in a draft you're damn right I'm gonna ask for an awful lot. In this draft I may go crazy with my demands.

I agree with he has better tools, I am not sure about better quickness as Rivers was really touted for that. And I am not sure about BBIQ, as I thought Rivers was also strongly touted for that. I do think Exum will be a much better offensive cog and creator.
My concern is that Exum's floor could look very similar to a young Rivers. I think people assuming he is going to create more wins next year than Parker, Embiid or Wiggin, must think incredibly high of him.
Other than the DX videos, I really don't know much about him, but am obviously intrigued by him. I am just not sure he is a lock to be better than Rivers day 1. I will have to go back and see how Rivers was considered as a prospect on the boards, frankly I can't recall.

You're not taking size into account. Exum is a legit 6'6 with a 6'9.5 wingspan vs. a 6'4 (6'7 wingspan) Rivers. If we were going off of raw combine numbers, Markel Brown would be a top 3 "athlete" in this current draft.
I would consider a taller, faster, ball-dominant guard to be a better athlete than a 6'4, off-ball shooting guard. Much in the same way I'd consider Giannis a better "athlete" than Tony Allen, despite the fact that he can't jump as high as him.

Exum turns the corner better and does it with his head up. He's much longer. Better defender. Rivers was a better shooter but struggled similarly from the FT line. Exum is a more fluid mover. They don't really play alike. It had never occurred to me to compare them.
I also don't think the book is closed on Rivers, who flat out left school before he was ready.

3 + Young for 1 wouldn't surprise me for the simple fact that it's the Cavs who would be accepting the trade. They are the only franchise in the NBA that I think is more abysmal than the Bucks.
How the **** can you win the lottery to take LeBron, not win a championship with him... then get lucky as **** and win it twice more only to end up with Irving and Bennet to show with it... and also with only Karasev to show for 19th overall, Waiters to show for 4th overall and Thompson to show for 4th overall?
You almost have to try to draft that bad with that many good picks.
