According to reports, Ettore Messina, current head coach of CSKA Moscow, will join the San Antonio Spurs’ coaching staff after the season ends.
Messina is a four-time Euroleague Champion and a two-time Euroleague Coach of the Year. In 2008, he was named one of the 50 Greatest Euroleague Contributors. On top of all his Euroleague accomplishments, Messina has also been named the Italian League’s Best Coach on three separate occasions and served as the head coach of the men’s Italian National Team for four years.
Messina has been considered head coaching jobs before with the Atlanta Hawks and Utah Jazz, and has served under Mike Brown with the Los Angeles Lakers. Before coming to the NBA, Spurs guard Manu Ginobili also played for Messina in Europe on the Italian club Virtus Bologna.
