Any interest in Kevin Martin or Jeff Green? (DET/BOS/MIN)

Post#1 » by Andrew McCeltic » Mon Jun 23, 2014 8:58 pm

Celtics fan here, our board's been talking around ideas to get Kevin Love, obviously, but in a way that gives MIN immediate help...

What do you all think of something built around

Love to BOS
Josh Smith, Celtics assets to MIN
Kevin Martin to DET

OR

Love to BOS
Josh Smith, Celtics assets to MIN
Jeff Green to DET?

Any appeal there? My sense would be that you can keep Monroe and get a scorer/shooter on the perimeter... Not what I'd do if I were the Pistons, but you guys know the team and your options better..

Giving us cap as well? I'd do either.

Martin's contract - 6.8, 7.0 7.4

Green - 9.4, 9.4

Smith - 13.5, 13.5, 13.5
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Turning Smith into the cheaper Jeff Green, who can actually shoot and is a real SF, would be fantastic. I wouldn't be excited by getting Martin, since he's a one-way player, but he's getting paid less than Smith, and he can shoot, so that'd be nice.

I like the idea.

Maybe Celtics then doesn't trade Sullinger. But get two forwards to MIN that keeps them semi relevant.

MIN gets: Smith, Green, picks

DET gets: Martin, Bogans

BOS gets: Love

2nd trade looks better

Good deals for DET in both cases, Green probably the preferable player of the two.

Whether it makes sense to Minnie would depend on whether Saunders wants to try and chase a playoff spot this season. Rubio, Smith and Pek could be a nice nucleus if they can get shooters for the 2 & 3.

I like Martin. Would be a good fit for us. This team needs shooters.

I'd happily do both.
I guess i'd prefer Green, but neither player is all that exciting.

I think he can be waived for nothing.

Sounds almost too easy for Detroit. I'm worried that SVG wouldn't pull the trigger on the K-Mart deal for a lack of defense in return.

Wait, we trade Smith, and actually get some kind of value in return? OK.
Saying that, no thanks to Kevin Martin, under any situation. Every team that guy goes to (other than OKC for some reason), all you hear about, is how terribly overrated he is, and how disgusting it is watching him try (or not try) to play defense. (There's a reason the GS->Love trade died when MIN insisted on swapping Martin for Thompson) If you give that guy any sort of responsibility other than what he got in OKC which was to just come in off the bench and shoot a bunch of times and sit down, then he is going to be a disaster. Id avoid the hell out of that if i could.

If we swap Smith for Green though, you'd have to say yes to that, even though you have worries about how good he actually is aswell.
