Masai wants to go deeper in the playoffs and make a good offer to another free agent the following couple of summers. He knows we need to establish a winning culture in order to attract the free agents so there's no way in hell he's letting go of Lowry or not trying to bring in a good replacement for him.

KYLE: "Guys, thanks for calling but I gotta go. It's Lebron on the other line."
These imaginary conversations you post... did you spend a lot of time alone in your room as a child?

Actually thats what people said when VC re-signed and when Hakeem the Dream signed with us. The whole "times are changing" line.
Nonetheless re-signing Lowry is still very important for some of the reasons you pointed above.

Do you see us as a 2nd round team with KL?

No. Thats the whole point. They will not waste time on stuff that won't happen. 12:01AM, the mission is to contact Lowry and sign him ASAP. Let Miami, Houston etc. work on Lebron.

Even if we overpay Lowry, he can always be traded.
The Knicks just traded an overpaid aging Tyson Chandler. The Rockets backloaded Asik's contract like crazy and just dumped him for a 1st rounder. If you're Masai you MUST retain Lowry because even if he falls off, there will be teams who want him. The Rockets right now have Lin's fat contract and teams are apparently lining up to take it.
It's a nice thought, but let's ask Detroit how they are doing with J.Smith's contract... Yes we will probably be able to trade him but for what? 10m/yr Kyle Lowry is a tradable asset you will get value in return, a 12-13m/yr Kyle Lowry is not... Yes, the Rockets just trade Asik for a 1st Rd. It was also the last year of his deal, that only takes up 8.5m on the cap for a defensive bigman... Big difference between Kyle Lowry at 12m with say 3yrs still left on his deal...
Few things. First off, that's assuming Kyle falls off the face of the Earth with his play. Second thing, Josh Smith is totally different in terms of what he brings to a team and isn't that leader player on a team who takes and makes big shots and makes big plays. If Lin can be traded, Kyle can be traded. If Rudy can be traded, Kyle can be traded. I doubt anyone here would even think to trade Gay for Kyle.

-Before this past year J.Smith was a far superior player then Kyle even on an analytics level & from a trade value perspective... 1.5 yrs ago you could never get J.Smith for Kyle Lowry...
-Before this past year Kyle was not a leader & may not have had as many head scratching issues as J.Smith but he had them... Who's to say he doesn't revert?
-Yes, anybody is tradable, but it is a question of what you can get back in return... I would rather it be teams clamoring to get our guys rather then us combing the entire NBA to find something half decent in return for our guys
-All I am saying we you equated $$ you are also talking about years as well... I don't mind paying Lowry 12m over 3yrs but when you add that 4th year it makes a huge difference in GM's minds looking to acquire if things were to change & go south anytime soon...

Obviously it will never happen if they don't call.

Honestly, that all depends on if our guys make the needed improvements as a group and a lot of that also depends on how good the other teams get(such as cats, wiz, bulls, atl etc) I don't see why we can't, my expectations for next year are 2nd round if we keep the core/add a couple of pieces/dd/ross/jv all improve etc.
