Are you posting this from Pacific Mall after haggling for some bootleg DVDs? 4 years and 40 million? Who do you think we are? The South Beach NBA Finalists?

4 years and 52 million is likely. Anything less and we should all be thrilled. He'd be the best in-prime free agent signing in our history and could go down as most people's second favorite Raptor of all time to VC. Keep Wham away from the negotiations!

We are in a different country and some of the states offer favorable tax breaks and a better lifestyle for Kyle's family.

We aren't the best destination. I don't think our offer will be the best offer fans would ideally want. Get over it. 4 years. 52 million. That's my guess.

18 millions? C'mon man...
If Ujiri has done such a thing, he deserves to be fired, right now!

Don't worry guys, I already called the math police on this one...

Nah man, Lowry should get 9 million tops - no way he deserves as much as Bargnani or Tyreke Evans

In a vacuum it's not ridiculous. But Lowry has a bad rep around the league to a good number of GMs, this is pretty common knowledge. Which greatly affects what MU can get in return on him if he tried to deal him later (in addition to Lowry not being a player who fits all teams/systems).

This stuff should be factoring into our offer, it's one thing to overpay a bit for a guy wanted by many/fitting many teams, Lowry does not fit either criteria though.

That's fine, we don't need the cap this year or next

He most certainly does not. The Heat franchise isn't much more than a bunch of question marks right now. Lebron is not going to be there to help with the bid, and any deal with them is going to be for less money and can't done right away. Lowry seems like someone that wants to lock in to a deal for his family, and to make a firm decision to play for a team that truly believes in him from top to bottom..

This...Grange said he would be shocked if KL didn't sign with the raptors because he likes it in TO, raptors have the most money and there is not as much interest in the free agent market for point guards. This is according to his contacts around the league.

Funny enough, Greivis Vasquez was on the FAN 590 at around 7pm and didn't sound surprised when they quoted Grange's comments to him. GV repeatedly kept saying that he "has a good feeling" about the situation as if he wanted to confirm it but couldn't (probably just me reading my opinion into his words).

The problem is, Lowry is one of the top "attainable" free agents this year. And his attitude this year showed a total professional maturity. So I have no doubt there would be many bidders for his services. Once the handful of max guys stay put (Big 3) or jump ship (Melo) there isn't much left to choose from.

The downside of losing him is immense, and it's worth the $2-3mm overpay to keep him from being tempted elsewhere.

People are saying anything over $9 million is too much? Holy **** you guys are crazy, Derozan makes more, sure he's the All-Start on this team but Lowry is without a doubt the best player and the leader of this team. 10-12 million is acceptable, anything higher is well above what he's worth.

The argument that will be made against me is that $9 million is how much his play is worth, well sadly this is Toronto where you have to overpay your own free agents to stay, we try paying Kyle for his value and another team in the States can offer him just that and he will gladly bolt.

Simply put: Money talks.

Lol at the fans who were panicking about losing Lowry and now they are panicking about overpaying Lowry. 4 years 48 million with the 4th year being player option is a very reasonable deal for a "corner stone" and leader of this young team.

retain:
Lowry- 12 million
Vasquez- 5 million
Patterson- 5 million
Hansbrough- 3.3 million

add:
Williams- 5 million
Carter- mid level- 4 million
Bebe- 1.5 million
Bruno- 1.3 million

The Luxury tax is set at approximately 73-74 million dollars which means the raptors should be just short of that mark.

Honestly this seems really low-bar to me, the kind of standards we're used to in the past...bidding against ourselves for a guy who's worth more to us for PR value than he is an actual commodity in the league.

Lots of cheapskates in this thread. You got a top 10 player in wins shared last year and you are paying him 9 or 10 million. If it weren't for his past history, his market value is at least 13 million dollars a season. If he keeps 90% of his production, 12 million bucks is a slight underpayment.
