If NY refuses to engage the Bulls in a S&T and we can't find a 3rd team to take Boozer; can the below trade happen?
Get Orlando or Utah to S&T Melo at the 4yr/$96mm contract amount to the Bulls.
Bulls amnesty Boozer, then send Dunleavy, Randolph and the non-guaranteeds to Orl or UTH, along with our pick in 2015 and the SAC pick as compensation for doing us a solid?
I think the most we could start Melo at in this scenario would be close to $20mm, this is essentially the Deeks trade but with Orl or UTH facilitating the deal of NY doesn't want to cooperate. This could force NY to play ball if Melo says he wants the Bulls.
No. You can only S&T your own FA - and they have to have been on the roster in the previous year (Keith Van Horn rule)
