They offer a better monetary situation than the Bulls, but the sign and trade doesn't give the player anything. That's my point. Why would the Bulls give up all of the stuff to the Knicks in sign and trade when they can just give up Taj and the MLE? There is an upper limit to how much Chicago would offer in S&T as a result and your offers are well past that.
Side note: I had a typo in my last post. Its 4/96 from Chicago.
If the Knicks sign and trade Melo, he would still get his 5/130
If the Bulls sign Melo he can only get 4/96
Thats the leverage we hold. We can get Melo his 5th year option. If Melo really wants that 5th year Knicks max, then we have some leverage because we are the only team that can give him that.
Melo would be smarter to just sign. It would be better for the Bulls and increase his chances... But i dont think he burns his bridges here. We invested a lot into him and he knows that. He will sign and trade imo.
At the very least get us something, even if its a peanuts deal Knicks fans will be unhappy with.
