The offense he wants to run is out of the post. He has publicly said it. He tries it every year with different players, Boozer, Deng and then Taj this year. It never works too well because of the players.

Melo's skill set is exactly what Thibodeau wants. Ironically, its those same abilities that have Phil Jackson telling Melo the triangle can work for him.

Its too bad. Melo could have made a run at MVP had he come to Chicago. Virtually every possession would have run through him.

Why do you think playing out of the post is THE thing that Thibs wants to do? From what I've seen its just one of the things he wants to do on O.

The other thing is moving the ball around the perimeter, swinging it back and forth

Coldfish will be much better at it than me, but I think with Melo and Rose, our offense changes completely than years past. I see it Melo-centric via the post, along with Rose having isolation/pick' N rolls.

If we get Melo, I'm a lot more open to trading Butler for a SG that can shoot lights out. Or delegate Butler to the bench as a 6th man.

Been following this drama for a bit now... If we get melo then we are Gona win it all if not then he is going to be a career loser ? How does that even make sense ? Yes the bulls can field a better team right this moment but u can't sit here and tell me that this will be the case 2 yrs from now... They have Phil Jackson manning the ship now you noe the man who led to 6 bulls championships !!! There is no reason not to expect him to turn the ship and make NY into contenders next few seasons ... The man has do nothing but win ... He has more rings then fingers

God they are acting like they got like Chris Paul like Jose is not the guy to bring you over the top and either is Gasol...just don't get how Phil is getting so much props for the Jose move I rather have DJ over him

Denial can be a bad thing.

I'm sorry is there a official reports by other media outlets beside this one? Is there a official word on Melo decison on natiaon televison? Answer is no. I'm not saying he won't resigning despite my optimiztic there are no official word for Melo decision rather he resign or not.

Jumping over a conclusion can be a bad thing

All that report says is Jackson "believes" Anthony will resign soon. No actual information or indication, and as has been stated, delay really implies that he's torn about staying v going.

He has never done this job before and neither has the coach that alone would make me not wanna go back to NY.

While as a Bulls fan, I love Phil Jackson, he has always coached Hall of Fame, legendary talent. Secondly, he did that all a a coach. Never been a GM. Jackson could build an amazing team but he has yet to prove that he can.

Mr. Jordan might have something to say about that. As would Krause, who actually put those teams together. PJ is a great coach, but TBD as to whether that carries over, there are many successful coaches who have been less than successful GMs. In fact, I'm trying to think of the last successful coach who moved into a GM role and won a title there. Riley? Pop could qualify but he went the other way. George Karl, Lenny Wilkens, Larry Brown, Chuck Daly - didn't they all move to GM roles with no success?

Maybe Phil can do it but it's certainly no given.

What's interesting though is they have been casing each other out for months before the meeting. Melo asking others about Thibs and Thibs doing the same about Melo. "Doing your homework" sounds like a trait they have in common.

The Bulls have given Melo two options. One with Gibson and one without Gibson and Melo getting the max. Also the Gasol stuff is linked to this. I can't get into specifics but the Bulls could land Melo at 22mil, Gasol at 8mil and still have the MLE for Nikola.

That's exactly what I would expect. I'm no front office cheerleader, but I don't believe they are stupid by any stretch.

BTW does the without Gibson option involve sign and trade?

Which means it's more like 4 years 93-94 million vs.5 years 129. He's not leaving 60 million on the table. More like the extra year, and that's it.

I know. Its hilarious. Its Jose Calderon. He got his starting job in Toronto where he promptly lost it to Jarret Jack. And they traded their starting center to get him. That doesn't make their team better. It makes them worse. They did cut some salary, however. So, it was a good money saving move.

For me, I think that while Thibs does have his issues on offense with schemes and such. A lot of it has to do with the personnel as others have said.
I think that factors into the pursuit of Melo as well as Gasol.
They fit the potential dynamic of what he intends to do on offense.
If we can land them then the offense will likely be completely different and the most efficient we have ever seen under Thibs.

Pure speculation, but this could easily be the rumored 3-way. First Bulls deal Taj and MDJ/Snell, opening up a $20+ cap space offer. This gets Knicks to agree to S&T where Bulls get Melo/Gasol ($30M total), LA gets Boozer. LA & NY share picks/Mirotic.

Or ideally, the fact that Bulls have a Taj deal lined up gets NYK to play ball. I like Taj next to Melo better than Gasol.
