Trade taj for pick + TPE. Once Melo signs trade TPE + for Pau in a sign and trade

I can legitimately say this Melo stuff is making my head hurt...

At first it's 129M vs. 60M

Now, if we can offer 22M it's 129M vs. 88M if I'm not mistaken. But replace Taj with Gasol?

Why wouldn't we go forward with this?....Oh...that pesky 41M he'd be leaving on the table.

BTW does the without Gibson option involve sign and trade?

I think the w/o Gibson is if no S&T. I can't get into specifics but the bottom line is the Bulls have told Melo they would give him the 4 year max.

I still think he stays with the Knicks.

This makes no sense to me at all. If Melo has any real desire to win and has been given a max offer from a contender how does he turn that down?

Great job by the FO even if we don't get Melo.

There are annual raises that apply to the 22 mil figure, not to mention we can extend him for a 5th year further closing the gap.

Maybe Taj already knows. Would he really be that upset going back to his own hometown?

Him being a part of the recruitment process might have been the Bulls trying to put leverage on Melo to take less to keep him. In that sense, they're not doing him dirty -- they're showing him they're willing to do anything possible to keep him.

But he has to know ... heck, everyone knows ... that Taj cannot be a deal breaker in getting Melo. I don't think he would have trouble accepting that knowing the Bulls did everything they could to avoid losing him.

Melo max for us is 96 Million over 4 years, I believe.

what if he also has a very real desire to raise his son in New York and play in New York

I know a certain poster who said we told Taj going into the meeting this could end with him off the team, and yet he still participated.

I regret now that I called him a lunatic

Taj the team player :)

His family is already in NY. If he wanted to stay there is no reason to consult them for this long. You talk to them that night. If he was thinking about leaving, that's when you really think things through.

Example: My dad had two job offers, to stay in Chicago or to go to Cali. His preference was Chicago all along. It took no more than an hour discussion with my mom and I and it was done deal. The next day, he accepted the offer.

Your dad was talking about losing close 50 million dollars. No!
That is an extraordinary amount to consider turning down.

yeah man,

it's not the same ballpark

HELLL it's not even the same league

100% agree. Pau would be a terrible and unnecessary signing if we don't get Melo.

Oh yeah, good luck with Taj/Noah/Gibson vs. Gortat & Nene again...a duo who clearly has their number

I wonder what the total money Melo would make signing a 3 + 1 deal opting out then signing another max deal. With chicago having lower tax for the 1st 5 years he can't be leaving that much money on the table, probably under 10 mil.

It would look more like this:

Gibson to Charlotte
Boozer and 1st to LA
Picks and no salary to NY
Melo and Gasol to Chicago

If it is true the Utah was willing to take Boozer, for Snell, and a 1st, there would be no reason to move Gibson. You could get Melo the max, while keeping Gibson, instead of Gasol. If you still wanted Gasol, the 3 un-guaranteed guys can bring back $6.2M, adding Smith gets it to $7.6M. If it were cheaper to send Boozer to LAL, than Utah, even better, but no reason to move Gibson.

ehh...I'm not too worried about that really. Noah wasnt himself due to the loss fo his mentor in that series.

and really the problem in that series was that our guards got severely outplayed. Our bigs are still a strength of this team, and our guard depth is still our big weakness. In that respect nothing has changed since 2010
