Plus the CBA dictates melo's max...not market, unless another team can offer 129 mil....thats isnt his "market".
The team he was rumored to be signed, sealed, delivered with to the point of asking about the coach and how it is to have a celebrity life there offered him a starting salary of 15 mil.....
Melo is worth max only from a business standpoint, a tool to sell more tickets and merchandise at higher prices, because for the most part basketball fans go goo goo gaga over individuals over the actual teams they play for.
Phil's mistake imo should have been to offer a number he truly feels he can work with to effectively build the team he visions, which would have been in line with everything he has said.
Then if comes to max...so be it.
You don't think if the Bulls or Lakers had either the money(Bulls) or 5th year(LA) they wouldn't hand it to him?
I do. This is where you and I will never agree. Even on the court Melo is a max player in today's game. Look at the contracts being thrown around. Melo at max lines up.
You dont have to agree, you're debating facts, not opinion.....they cannot offer it, end of story there.
Melo's market as a star player is determined by the CBA, and reality is....teams arent bending for him.
Fact.....no other team CAN offer 129 mil......so that isnt his market as no one but the Knicks can give it to him.
There hasnt been any report the Bulls are even trying to get anywhere close to what their max for him is....15 mil was allegedly offered during the selling meeting.
At this point, I'm not discussing "if's" only what we've known and facts.
And if you're really in believe that a team offering a bad contract justifies melo's max, I pray Phil doesnt have similar thinking.

Making them feel as if they should/ have to do something only pushes them in the op posit direction. Melo said he was willing to take less. Phil was supposed to leave it there. It was not Phil's place to harp on it especially since we all know Melo's market says he is in fact a max player. That is where I will forever stand on that issue. Phil played that card wrong.

Teams aren't moving heaven and earth because they know that it is very unlikely that Melo will sign with them in the first place. If Melo committed 100% to a team they would do everything in their power to make room
The CBA doesn't dictate Melo's value. Melo's true value is probably over the max, but the amount of money he can receive is limited the CBA. Lakers offered him the much they could and probably would have offered him more if they could.
Also how do you know Phil made a mistake and that he believes that he can actually build a team with Melo making the max?

That's the thing, I don't think its a bad contract. Then again I believe in Melo and you don't...much like the majority of the board.

Fact: Other teams want him but don't have the necessary cap space to offer the max.
