Every successful GM rubs other organizations the wrong way at some point, and even the unsuccessful ones do if they actually try to aggressively improve their team. Think of how many teams hate Morey, I'm fairly certain the Mavs made Parsons that offer just to screw with him above all else. Pop is on record as disliking how it seems like Kupchak can just trade crap for gold because he's in LA and everyone keeps falling for it. Hinkie and Ainge definitely have their detractors, I've read multiple reports from "sources" (yeah, I know, that kind of reporting sucks but it's all we have to go on) that teams have been irritated by their blatant tanking and their incessant desire to stockpile picks at every turn. Pretty sure the only way to make other organizations feel affection towards you is to consistently get owned by the other side in every transaction ala Billy King.
I don't begrudge the Jazz for holding out the full 72 before signing Hayward. It is what it is. If they don't makes us bleed a bit they basically welcome overtures towards all their future RFAs. Every team was warned this would happen, Cho called their bluff and they held firm. No bad intentions by either side, it's just how the business operates. We threw in the trade kicker to twist their arm a bit, as one of the posters above mentioned, so it's not like we kept things clean either. Obviously I'd prefer if they were especially gracious towards us, but I think Cho knew this would happen in the event they matched and he pulled the trigger anyway. It was a good aggressive move, just didn't pay off. I hope Cho will be willing to take this risk again if the situation calls for it, it was worth a shot if that's his guy and he shouldn't be scared away from his preferred targets without testing other teams first. I also hope we make other teams twist like this too if they try to poach Biz/Kemba/MKG in the future, especially if they force us to overpay. It might not be good citizenship but it's good management.
