Yes, at the time I was pissed that we had passed on Hood on draft night. Like you, I couldn't believe he was available. But I hadn't bother to look at his combine measurements. Now I see his wingspan is only 6" 8.5" (exactly his his height with shoes). T-Ross territory, although Hood's taller. And he's gonna turn 22 right after the season starts this year.
We now know that Ross has crazy athleticism to make up for his T-Rex arms - cf the steal at the end of Game 7. But does Hood? There's a certain type of two-way player that Masai (and Casey) are looking for, and Hood didn't fit the bill. He's obviously offensively gifted, but that's not enough.
I always follow the careers of players picked right after the Raptor pick, especially if I thought at the time we should draft them. Drummond obviously. In 2010 I didn't understand why BC picked the willlowy Davis over the chunky Patterson. We needed girth up front at the time. Passing on Jennings was clearly not a mistake in retrospect. But I'll be interested to watch Hood develop.
