Yes, at the time I was pissed that we had passed on Hood on draft night. Like you, I couldn't believe he was available. But I hadn't bother to look at his combine measurements. Now I see his wingspan is only 6" 8.5" (exactly his his height with shoes). T-Ross territory, although Hood's taller. And he's gonna turn 22 right after the season starts this year.

We now know that Ross has crazy athleticism to make up for his T-Rex arms - cf the steal at the end of Game 7. But does Hood? There's a certain type of two-way player that Masai (and Casey) are looking for, and Hood didn't fit the bill. He's obviously offensively gifted, but that's not enough.

I always follow the careers of players picked right after the Raptor pick, especially if I thought at the time we should draft them. Drummond obviously. In 2010 I didn't understand why BC picked the willlowy Davis over the chunky Patterson. We needed girth up front at the time. Passing on Jennings was clearly not a mistake in retrospect. But I'll be interested to watch Hood develop.

I agree that I thought Hood would be our pick as BPA... but Masai is really a genius.

Hood is about to turn 22 years old once the season starts... Bruno will just turn 19. 3 years from now, who can't see Bruno being better than Hood (while developing with an NBA franchise that will work him hard)? When Bruno turns 22, I think he's going to be much better than Hood (at the point he's at now), especially because Hood's D is pretty terrible. Bruno isn't far off from Hood, even though he's 2/3 years younger.

Do you think the Raptors made a mistake by bringing Caboclo over this season? Should he have stayed in Braziled and played 1 more season before the Raptors brought him over?

Your second question seems to have been answered. Majority seem to be of the opinion that it was not a mistake to bring him to surround him by NBA level development staff in NBA level facilities.

Your first question remains unanswered... are there examples of such raw rookies being drafted and given a roster spot to develop as the 14/15th man? How successful were teams at developing those players? Hoping someone answers this.

With 4 pages and no example I think there are no examples of this.

I don't know about guys being brought from overseas, but there are plenty of American teens who developed on the bench early in their careers. Does nobody remember T-Mac? Amir Johnson? Jermaine O'Neal? Bringing Bruno over now was the right move. It's just going to be a tough first year for him. Anyone who has had to learn, or knows someone who had to learn a new language and culture from scratch, knows it's a big adjustment. I'm glad that translator is gone though. I'd rather the team use Bebe or Machado around as his translator until his English improves enough to get by on his own.

Bruno has done enough to show me he is extremely promising. Obviously he is raw and we all expected that. But he is averaging 12ppg in his first ever competitive basketball in North America, I'm happy with that. Id imagine this time next year we will be watching a much more polished Bruno at the SL.

It's hard to be disappointed in an 18 year old who already has 3 point range and can probably hit his free throws, while showing huge defensive potential. He can develop into the type of player playoff teams love to have.

If Bruno blocks that dunk yesterday, people are talking about OMFG Toronto stole the next Nic Batum or Kawhi Leonard. At least he made an effort to block it.

True. He was way above the rim for that one. I'm curious what his max vertical reach is. I'm guessing it's close to elite.

It would be unfair to even grade Bruno in anything this year . He is so young and his starting line with his little experience is a long ways before everyone else's starting line , just the fact that he is doing what he is doing is amazing but I will wait until next year to grade him . By then he should be on the same footing as the other prospects coming into summer league and by then he should be a focal point of the team too .

This.

I expected far less. His performance in summer league has actually gotten me more excited for him.

I was skeptical at first, but watching him during Summerleague it's obvious this kid is going to be something really special in a year or two. It's going to be fun watching this kid develop.

Neither Wiggins or Parker have been setting the world on fire. Best summer league guys are second or third year players playing their last summer league games.

Bruno will have better physical development than bebe who was sent back to Europe and came back the same body.
