Reggie Lewis for those too young to remember him. This is Wiggin's ceiling in my opinion (fingers crossed)
I'm a Celtic fan who has even met/talked to Reggie Lewis and I see Wiggins ceiling significantly higher than Reggie Lewis. But some aspects of their game are similar and I've previously thought about the comparison myself.
Reggie Lewis could defend...he once blocked Jordan I believe 3 times in a game but Wiggins has much more ability/potential on that end of the court from what I've seen. I would never have wanted Lewis guarding PGs and I don't think his lateral quickness was nearly as good as Wiggins.
Wiggins is also the quicker/faster/more explosive athlete. Lewis could jump very quickly but Wiggins can jump quickly and get up even higher. And Wiggins I believe will develop the 3 point shot which is probably more important than the advantage that Lewis will probably always have in the midrange. Lewis despite his skinny size proved he could take the pounding of the NBA.
The thing they have in common is neither players dribbling ability will ever be a true strength but their athleticism/length will allow them to score. I do think Wiggins will be a better ball handler than Lewis but still not a top notch ball handler for a SG or SF.
I see Wiggins with the potential to be Reggie Lewis 3.0 or at least 2.5 which is basically a top 4-10 NBA player in his prime. Like Lewis, it will take Wiggins a few years to harness his scoring ability.
Wiggins will have to work at it and if his perimeter shooting doesn't improve much, chance are he just ends up a lower tier all-star when he physically matures.
Wiggins is a unique player and that is why he has his advocates like me and some people who think Parker was the better selection.
If you don't believe Wiggins will be an impact player on the defensive end, its easier to predict failure but everything I've seen at Kansas has led me to believe he will be an impact defender. I guess the one concern on that end is how will he rebound which becomes more important at SF than SG.
Just like Pippen was the perfect compliment to Jordan, I see Wiggins with the serious potential to be the perfect compliment to Lebron. Wiggins I see with less defensive ability than Pippen -- although I still think Wiggins will be an excellent defender -- and less ball handling ability than Pippen but with significantly more shooting ability than Pippen.
