He is not explosive at all, even when he is in good shape. When he inevitably gets out of shape again, the sleep apnea will do a good job of making it difficult for him to recover.
What makes (some of) you guys think that he is a valuable asset? His turnaround fade-aways in SL? I'd rather keep Thad a year and lose him for "nothing," if it meant showing the younger guys how to succeed in this league.
Bennett's appeal is the idea that you can always fix prospects..this is often misguided but it goes as such.
- While drafted super high, it's not like he was some Euro Prospect who was balling against chairs in a gym. Bennett was a highly recruited player going into college and had a damn good year (I think his PER was close that of Parker's this year IIRC).
- He was hurt and rushed back to the court to live up being overdrafted. Last years CAVs team was a bad spot for him (this years team could be as well with all of the extra attention) in terms of development w/ the MAKE THE PLAYOFFS mandate and once again being over-drafted (would have been worse if Noel actually played last year).
- Hinkie apparently wanted him. IIRC Oladipo, Noel and Bennet being there at 6 was a prerec of the Jrue trade. Hinkie is god around these parts because reasons
- Brown will whip him into shape.
- He still has potential..not first overall potential but potential to do stuff.
Personally, I might take Shabazz over him (just barely) but I think the main idea is to get something for Thad who is so gone unless we overpay to bring him back..and the longer you wait the more Turner-esque deals you get back. A full season of Thad is better than half of one to any prospective buyers..and if The Wolves wanting to compete is true, maybe they think Thad (and Wiggins) could do what Love couldn't...for some reason.
I'm not over enthused about Bennett being the haul but I'd take him over draft picks and **** contracts. We need to bring back something of worth rather than more stuff down the line..
