Gotta think we get more than just Bennett. Seems like something is missing here.

Well technically he's not wrong regardless since the Love trade can't go through until the 23rd...

haha touché. Could be Dei Lynam's wonderful reporting skills at work there.

Well, she's really just reporting what he said. She's not herself saying that there's no merit to the rumored trade.

I hope it's true, but something tells me Woj is gonna come out and say it is not true within 24 hours.

Ultimately though, it makes too much sense to get done IMO. The Sixers are very tight-lipped. Any leaks come from other organizations IMO.

It's a horrible deal.

We'll miss Thad and the young guys could learn a lot from him.
Who's the leader of this team now?
MCW? The second-year-pro?

Or Arnett Moultrie?

I just don't see it in Bennett, just don't. He's lazy and has too many holes in his game.

We're going to miss Thad a lot.

While Dei was asking questions, did she ask Thad if he would call his agent? What a half assed job!
“This may be one of the best jobs in basketball right now,” Colangelo said at a press conference introducing him as the new GM of the 76ers after Sam Hinkie resigned.

I love the trade. Thad was not gonna be a part of this teams future anyway and there is s
some potential with Bennett.

Something ridiculous just dawned on me. After this trade goes down(if it actually does), then we are a buyout of Jason Richardson and a waiving of Arnett Moultrie away from Nerlens Noel being the longest tenured Philadelphia 76er. And he hasn't played a game yet. :o :o

Well technically speaking, Noel wasn't officially a sixer till July 2013, when the jrue trade was official. So, MCW would be the longest tenured sixer lol.

Y'know what I'd really like to see? Sixers trying to get Shabazz Muhammad in addition to Bennett. How much could Minny really like 'Bazz? Not all that much, right? Add in a couple of of 2nd rounders to go along with Thad and demand Muhammad, too. Apparently Minny really wants Thad and doesn't want Bennett (as well they shouldn't-- they've already gone through the Derrick Williams Experiment).

It's not that I think all that highly of Muhammad; I don't. But I'm all for stockpiling assets. He was for a pretty long time regarded as a likely #1 pick. So was Noel. So was Embiid. Bennett actually WAS a #1 pick, although a stupid one. MCW was the actual rookie of the year. That's a lot of young prospects. Then just see how many can pan out.

And that's what I'd do, said young Gerald McGrew...

I'd be interested in Shabazz as well. I could see Bennett+Shabazz+Barea+Mbah for Thad.

It'd be real nice if Woj had a comment on this. I want to be excited about it but idk yet.

it's weird to me how any of these reporters can say the Love trade/Thad trade are "done"

we're still weeks away from these trades even being official. lot can happen between now and then

Minny paper:

Those two-plus weeks give either side extra time to change their minds. It also allows time for the Wolves to search to involve another team in a three-team deal that, for example, could enable them to send away the expiring contracts of Luc Mbah a Moute and Alexey Shved to Philadelphia along with the first-round pick they are acquiring from Cleveland for veteran forward Thaddeus Young.

Well if they're implying that Philly might "only" be taking on bad contracts, for "only" a late 1st round draft pick, that has to be simply uninformed and/or homeristic reporting (or "leaks" planted by the Wolves). Hinkie is too smart for that. If anything, the Sixers taking on bad contracts should enable them to get extra assets on top of Bennett, such as Shabazz (as another poster suggested) and/or draft picks. Capspace is now pretty scarce and hence valuable.

How exactly is it a horrible deal?

Bennett while underachieving as the number 1 pick last year, was on an underachieving Cavs squad with selfish teammates, a horrible head coach and incompetent management.

Who's to say that he can't bounce back with the right head coach and teammates? I'm not saying that he'll be a star or anything, but he's only 21, and still has a lot of potential to get better.

As far as Thad goes, sure he's been a nice player for us and a good mentor for the young guys, but he's still an undersized tweener with no real position. Plus he's all but certain to leave once he hits free agency next summer.

Hinkie's philosophy is to buy low and sell high. He's getting Bennett when he's at his lowest possible trade value and trading Thad when he's at his highest trade value. Thus I think this is a good deal for us if it goes through.

As a rebuilding franchise, our number one priority has to be acquiring assets/talent first, and worrying about intangibles (i.e. chemistry, leadership, locker-room presence, etc.) later.
