The next in line would definitely have to be Noah if he continues to stay healthy and play at a high level. I think if he signs another extension with the Bulls and actually stays with the team throughout the contract period, I'm going to go as far to say that it will be a lock that he'll have his jersey retired even if he ends up being traded at 35 or whenever his next contract will be up.
I'm sorry, but that is just nonsense. He won't even come close to warranting a jersey retirement.
Nonsense? Not close to warranting his jersey being retired?
Lets see, this is the Bulls career leaders with Kirk on the list:
Career games played: 4th, is 49 games behind Jerry Sloan for 3rd
Career minutes: 6th
3 points made: 1st, by a significant margin
Assists: 4th, 72 assists away from Norm Van Lier for 3rd
Steals: 3rd
Total points: 9th, 252 points away from Reggie Theus for 8th
As I said, I'm not going to be entirely bothered or stunned if the Bulls franchise decides not to retire his jersey, but lets not act like he is some scrub that hasn't achieved anything of significance either.
I understand the rankings for Kirk but its 100% due to actual length of time, not due to greatness.
Basically if anyone spends 8+ years in a franchise, they most likely will be ranked somewhere high on their alltime list. Unless they are the Lakers or Celtics that have one of the oldest richest franchises.
When you have a franchise that has boasted the GOAT, the players retired, should be alltime greats for the franchise in my opinion. When you consider, Jordan, Pippen, Sloan, Love, they were the best of the best at the time. Allstars, 1st team All NBA or 1st team all defense. Adding Kirk would look considerably out of place. It would be like he must be the long term achievement award winner.
Im not saying that they wont do it anyway, but im saying if he does, its not because of greatness.
Jo on the other hand is probably a shoe in when its all said and done. He is going to rank 1 or 2 in basically every defensive category.
With him already being a 2 time allstar, DPOY, 3 All defense teams (2 first), it basically enforces it.
Noah all of unique talent, accomplishments, and heart and soul of the era. For Kirk I wouldnt be surprised if the big thank you is just a spot in the front office.
