I'm not seeing how a quality PG gets us 10 more wins, especially when it's a backup, even moreso when we've already got a solid backup in Andre Miller. Even if you upgraded Miller to Isaiah Thomas (who I love) and gave him all of the backup G minutes, 10 more wins would still be very unlikely due to how well Miller is already playing and the limited number minutes available behind Wall & Beal.

Sam Cassell is gone ... so may be the emphasis on the mid-range jumper that Cassell preached to anyone on the team that would listen. Nothing against Cassell, but considering the Wizards led the league in what Nivek affectionally calls the "sh*t shot", his absense may be a good thing.
Cassell's absense in turn leads me to be more optimistic about improved efficiency for both Wall & Beal. While I don't expect the mid-range game of either to totally subside... I'd expect both to be wiser about taking these shots, especially without Cassell always in their ears about it. Both have admitted on relying on the mid-range too much and needing to be smarter about their shot selection this past year.
Trevor Booker is gone ... and in turn, I'd expect our defense not to fall off a cliff like it did when Nene went to the bench as it has in the past. Let's face it, it was overlooked while he was here, but Booker was a miserable defender. Being a 6-7 PF with poor spacial awareness simply doesn't cut it and the fact he started 45 games and we still finished with a 45-37 record is a testament to the rest of the roster.
Having Andre Miller for a whole season at backup PG helps. So does passable backups like Blair & Humphries upfront instead of the aforementioned Booker & Seraphin taking valuable minutes.
With all that being said, it's a tougher conference this year so it will take a better team to even equal the win total from last year. I think our roster is much better than we started last year with and even stronger than we ended last season. I also think replacing Ariza with Pierce makes us a much smarter team if a little less athletic on both sides of the ball, I think we'll at least hold serve there and that's not counting any possible contributions from Porter/Rice. I'm comfortable with predicting 47 wins and 5th seed.

Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

I do think 47 wins can get us higher than 5th, though.

Either we win the division or finish 5th, no real in-between. That's because IMO the Chicago/Cleveland loser is going to be the 4th seed. I don't think we're quite on they're level yet.
I really think Atlanta is a lot like Chicago in that they're incredibly well coached and are the type of team to maximize their regular season potential. The postseason might be a different story but with a healthy Horford/Millsap frontline, they could push 50 wins. I really love their role players, Korver & Carroll who both excel at taking efficient shots & playing team D. Those are two of the better role playing wings in the game.
Right now I give Atlanta the ever-so-slight advantage in the regular season over us, mainly because of their coaching.
