CSN Houston - Final Arguments today

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Thu Oct 30, 2014 4:03 pm

Could we be getting closer to the end of this debacle?

http://blog.chron.com/sportsupdate/2014 ... ptcy-case/

Having addressed two points raised last week by a judge in the long-running Comcast SportsNet Houston bankruptcy case, the Astros and Rockets will return to court Thursday in hopes of receiving final approval to sell the TV channel to AT&T and DirecTV.

Attorneys will deliver final arguments at 3 p.m. Thursday before Bankruptcy Judge Marvin Isgur, who will be asked to sign off on a proposal that could result in the final shutdown of CSN Houston and its relaunch as Root Sports Houston early next month.

Comcast, which co-owns CSN Houston with the teams, continues to oppose the team-sponsored reorganization plan, which would sell the network for $5,000 to AT&T and DirecTV, which will contribute $50 million in new capital to relaunch the channel.

Games are scheduled on CSN Houston through Noverber 9th, but nothing beyond that.

While the final arguments are scheduled for 3:00 PM, there is no guarantee that they will finish today. Also keep in mind that the last time these were scheduled it was changed 10 minutes before they were to begin.

I'll be patiently awaiting more news as it develops.

They've managed to drag it out. Hopefully today and the next couple days is when it ends. I hope to see them on Root Sports Houston on November 12th against the Timberwolves.

A federal bankruptcy judge approved Thursday a Chapter 11 reorganization plan that will allow AT&T and DirecTV to purchase Comcast SportsNet Houston and relaunch it in November as Root Sports Houston.

There was no immediate indication, in the wake of Judge Marvin Isgur’s ruling, when the new network will launch with expanded carriage on DirecTV and AT&T U-verse in addition to Comcast.

However, CSN Houston has posted a broadcast schedule through Nov. 9, so the new network is not likely to launch until after that period.

It's not a game, but this still seems appropriate

Tad Brown actually discussed the legal victory on 790 this morning. I know that Comcast will have an appeal, but it looks like that will just be further discussion over money and hopefully it shouldn't affect Root Sports from starting their broadcast on Uverse, Comcast & Direct TV.

Still no deal in place for Dish Network.

I do love that while this news is not even 24 hours old the Houston Chronicle's sports page has already bumped it down the page in favor of Texans, Texans, College Football & More Texans. :nonono:

I'm curious how this will work for folks who have Comcast currently. Will CSN simply be replaced by ROOT? I actually get to see the games right now, which is nice.

Comcast subscribers shouldn't be affected. I don't even think that you'll have to change the channel. It's just changing the name of the channel & the operators.

Have we seen games scheduled on CSN past November 11th?

At work the other day, I said that I didn't really watch football.

It's tough enough being a basketball fan in such a football-dominant town. It doesn't help when 60% of the area has no access to the games on television.

I actually had someone in my office ask me if we still had "that James Hardy guy." :nonono:

A hearing on Comcast’s appeal of the Comcast SportsNet Houston/Root Sports Houston reorganization plan devolved Wednesday into a 90-minute conference among attorneys for the Rockets, Astros, AT&T and DirecTV and another scheduled hearing for Thursday afternoon.

U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes convened the hearing to consider Comcast’s request to delay a bankruptcy court decision that will sell the Astros-Rockets-Comcast-owned network to AT&T and DirecTV and limit Comcast’s recovery of a $100 million secured loan to CSN Houston.

The teams, AT&T and DirecTV hope to launch Root Sports Houston, which will have carriage on U-verse and DirecTV in addition to Comcast, by mid-November. Comcast, however, has asked Hughes to stay the transaction pending its appeal.

“What Comcast wants is to be paid,” said Comcast attorney Craig Goldblatt. “… The suggestion we are trying to block the plan from going forward, that we are trying to prevent a competitor from entering the market or to obstruct the organization of the network, those allegations are just false.”

It's still not over, but getting closer. There's more at the link.

AT&T and DirecTV were granted a clear path Thursday to launch Root Sports Houston, the new television home for Astros and Rockets games, and to begin televising Rockets games as early as this month.

Based on an agreement between Comcast lawyers and attorneys for AT&T, DirecTV, the Astros and Rockets, U.S. District Judge Lynn Hughes dissolved the last court-imposed delay against closing the new network deal.

However, it remains unclear when Comcast SportsNet Houston, the teams’ current home, will fade to black and Root Sports Houston, which will have carriage on DirecTV and AT&T U-verse in addition to Comcast cable, will take its place.

“There’s still a process. We don’t have an announcement on when this will allow us to (launch the new network),” said Rockets general counsel Rafael Stone. “But there’s a clear path with no more legal obstacles.”

Finally getting there. It's so disappointing Houston can't watch this team right now.

Thanks for the updates Dr. E.
