17M for a LF is just laughable unless he's an elite slugger. 13M is still pushing it for me. Seth Smith just had a similar season and got 6M a year. LAD gave Scott Van Slyke like 250 ABs and he bested Melky. Sam Fuld can't do anything except catch baseballs and he bested Melky.

I'm not sure I agree with the last part... in the sense that I don't think AA could find a median LF if Melky leaves. I like Melky, but the main reason I want to keep him is that I feel the choice is Melky or some very marginal guy that we get as a "value" and that ends up starting opening day over someone better that still has options left... just
