Exactly because changing the coach every year isnt going to solve the problem, acquiring better talent will. However Byron Scott is indeed worse than MDA both offensively and defensively. Only thing Byron does better than MDA is talk. Philosophically MDA is more in tuned with how to win in the current NBA.

I do believe he is an averge coach at best, but the Laker's defensive woes really have nothing to do with B. Scott in my opinion.
And to compare him to MDA from a defensive perspective is ridiculous. B. Scott's emphasis is on defense. And he doesn't sound like a babbling idiot like MDA used to.
Th Lakers are a poor defensive team because they have no interior defensive presence, their perimeter defense is porous, they give up way too many 3s, and their rotations stink.
Some of that is coaching, but mostly it's personnel.
