Not with this team. Way to go B-Scott. Mike D'antoni had better defensive teams than this.

I really hope he lasts the season and we fire him the instant we draft Okafor or Towns. Don't need his poisonous hands screwing up our future

It seemed like a lot of people were high on him before the season started. How quickly things change haha.

Who was high on Byron Scott? I thought the general consensus amongst Laker fans was that he was nothing more than an average coach at best. The signing had more to do with his affiliation with the franchise rather than his coaching expertise.

Should have gone with George Karl. The dude was able keep Payton/Kemp under control most of the time, he'll be able to handle Kobe.

Majority of people were rooting for Scott on this forum - If I remember correctly.

I think thought due to the loss of Randle for the years, the Lakers probably decided to tank and get top 5 pick :)
If this happens I"m hoping for a good recovery from Randle:) will be a fun team next year if all healthy.

maybe time to change my sig.

Not even sure this team will be able to squeeze out 17 wins like the Kings did, just sad

Is this a thread about Laker's defense or about B. Scott as a coach?
I do believe he is an averge coach at best, but the Laker's defensive woes really have nothing to do with B. Scott in my opinion.

And to compare him to MDA from a defensive perspective is ridiculous. B. Scott's emphasis is on defense. And he doesn't sound like a babbling idiot like MDA used to.
Th Lakers are a poor defensive team because they have no interior defensive presence, their perimeter defense is porous, they give up way too many 3s, and their rotations stink.
Some of that is coaching, but mostly it's personnel.

Yes, some defense would be nice. Spurs got 4 or 5 attempts at the basket on one time in the lost to the spurs. Not saying this would have given the Lakers a win. But a little defense might at lease give some help and make the game a little easier.

Anyone who didn't needlessly blame MDA for all the teams woes last yr could've guessed that this team was going to be terrible at the defensive end again.

Only good thing about the mda to scott change is that people are starting to accept that the players just aren't any good. Certain critics aren't harping about the coaching night and day anymore.

Exactly because changing the coach every year isnt going to solve the problem, acquiring better talent will. However Byron Scott is indeed worse than MDA both offensively and defensively. Only thing Byron does better than MDA is talk. Philosophically MDA is more in tuned with how to win in the current NBA.

This season's team so far despite the extremely difficult schedule has a better offensive rating than last season and we actually have a higher than league average relative offensive rating (+0.4), this with some terrible shooting performances from Kobe & Hill alongside the absence of Nick Young, Kelly and other rotation caliber players like X.

The issue has been the defense and unlike MDA, Scott spent significant time designing schemes so being historically bad is a little underwhelming to say the least.

What's happening is that D'Antoni's offense was so good teams got tired trying to guard us, so it imrpoved our defense. Our offense is so bad now teams can focus all their energy guarding us because we stop ourselves on the offensive end.

Our defensive presence personal wise is better than last year. Ed davis is better at defense than how Pau was playing for us last year.

He is in charge of who starts and who doesn't, maybe start a better "interior defensive presence"? Of course, if he's got order from the top to go the other direction, it's a different story.

Not gonna try to argue Scott vs MDA but at least its easier to stomach 7 point losses vs 40 point losses to the clippers.

Well it might come to a point in the next offseason or the one after that. When there is almost no one under contract. Try to do what the Heat did. Maybe not get a big 3, but some all new players. Just have Randle and maybe another high lottery pick and the rest is wide open for add ons.

Lakers margin last yr was -6.2, this yr it's -9.2. They've lost by double digits in half the games they've played. I believe it's mostly due to the tough schedule, but your statement is a bit off the mark given those stats. Of course you could literally be talking about just caring how they perform against the clippers, in which case we can't forget they actually beat the clips in their first matchup last yr.
