I'll give you one foregone conclusion why he will.....7.5% raises compared to 4.5%. In a business sense it's pretty easy. Look I get you're enthusiasm and love for the Lakers just like any other poster here, but you gotta fully understand the CBA. Like I said it's way easier for teams to keep their star players than it was prior to the CBA that changed everything after 1999. For example if restricted free agency was in back in 1996 the Lakers wouldn't have ever gotten Shaq. Alonzo Morning would've never gotten away from Charlotte for Miami . Man it was a reason they went to restricted free agency, so teams wouldn't lose their building blocks.

Those days are over, guys don't need to depend on any market to expand their brand or do business.

And here's something you probably didn't even think about in regards to AD, why come here when looking at how the Bulls window will close if Rose doesn't ever get over his injury dilemma....when his 7 years or so is up in New Orleans the Chicago will be ripe for his return home.

What does Mitch need to do to make this happen? He's currently playing for a small market team that probably won't make the playoffs, next year the Pelicans have a team option on him, and then he can be a restricted FA the following year.

I'm sure he'd rather play in LA, as he would be coming in just as Kobe is retiring, and he would step right into that next Lakers franchise player role we thought Dwight Coward was going to fill. so if he told the Pelicans he was going to leave as a free agent, would they be willing to trade him this offseason so they could get more value for him?

Perhaps either Julius Randle or the Lakers 1st round pick this year plus Jordan Hill's expiring contract and maybe another future first?
Man it's not that easy, and it'll never happen. You guys have to stop looking for some other teams star player to just walk in here and save us. The dynamics of the CBA won't let teams lose it's stars as it did prior to 1996. Please tell me you know how the CBA works. You do realize he's only in his 3rd year right ?

You do realize he will be offered an extension next October right ?

You do realize once he signs that extension he's locked in for another 4 years right ?

So in closing you do realize the Lakers would have to wait like 7-8 years before he even sniffs full fledged free agency right ?

But why is it a foregone conclusion that he will sign the extension? LA can give him a max contract as well, and he'd probably make a ton more money in endorsements as the face of the Lakers.

If he just plays out his contract this year and next, and accepts the qualifying offer in two years he will be an UFA in three years. Ben Gordon was a number 3 pick in the draft, and did that very same thing, turning down the Bulls extension offers so he could become a free agent so it's not a completely unheard of idea. If the Pelicans know Davis is going to leave them, they might consider trading him so they can at least get some assets for him.

If I was a top 5 NBA player, looking to expand my global brand, the LA Lakers would be the number one place to do it, and I would do whatever it took to make my way to LA.

No the Lakers cannot offer Anthony Davis the biggest contract. This is incorrect. The team that can offer the largest extension is the team that holds his Birds rights, which right now is the Pelicans. No player in the modern NBA of Anthony Davis's caliber turns down the max or a mini max. With the salary cap projected to jump higher, that contract is going to be undoubtedly $100+ million. He won't sign a 1 year Qualifying offer to past that up.

Asking what it would take to get AD to the lakers franchise
is like asking what would it take to get Pat Riley to return
to coaching the lakers.

It'll never happen in a million zillion years.

A hope and a prayer. AD is for sure signing an extension. Maybe when his contract expires, but realistically no chance.

Step 1 - create time machine
Step 2 - travel back to 2011
Step 3 - tank
Step 4 - win lottery
Step 5 - draft Anthony Davis

It's that easy.

I'd be skeptical of Rose. He doesn't seem like his head is really into the game. I like Rondo and Love, but not sure if they make us championship contenders. Maybe substitute Westbrook for Rose and play him off the ball with Rondo at the PG. Love can stretch the floor, but we would still Need an AD type to guard the paint.

Maybe we could get Jordan from the Clippers or Asik from New Orleans to fill that role, or maybe find a guy in the draft, but I worry we will lose our pick to Phoenix once the team gets back on track this year, and we finish outside of the top 5.

Rose would be risky just because of his durability overall. I think the guy does want to win however. He's just a quiet, laid back dude like Kawhi Leonard.

I also don't see Asik leaving NO. Maybe DJ from the Clips is possible considering the Clips are already paying Blake and CP3 big money, they have a need at the wing, and DJ will be looking for a deserving raise.

They will never trade him. Never. Doesn't matter how much he wants to come here (and by the way he doesn't), you don't trade that kind of talent, just like the Cavs didn't trade James or the Thunder won't trade Durant.

I think getting Riley is a lot easier then AD, both difficult but as far as Riley goes all it would take is whatever % he got from Mia in ownership stake for the Lakers as well. Unlikely to happen but a lot less hoops and whinning/crying from other owners if we even actually managed to somehow get enough to get AD

Uh..REALITY CHECK? Davis in a few years is an RFA.. so.. he gets a max deal..Pelicans match. Lakers ...could say.. take EVERYTHING you want.. Pelicans would say...NO way dude. Basically... forget it. He ain't going anywhere for quite a few years.
