Only 3 centers in the NBA have a higher PER: D. Cousins, M. Gasol, and C.Bosh, and Bosh is really a PF who was playing out of position, and is back to playing PF now with Whiteside. I can definitely see your prediction coming true, maybe even sooner.
2 things:
(1) You mention Whiteside in relation to Bosh, but fail to include him as a center having a higher PER than Gobert (PER of 25). Maybe he hasn't played in enough games to qualify to show up (16 games) on season stats list, but he will assuredly be playing in every game for the rest of the season.
(2) Gobert will NOT be the best center in the NBA so long as Demarcus Cousins is in the league.
Yeah, Whiteside only has played 16 games, and we're at the midpoint of the season. Whiteside was just averaging 10mpg his first 9 games posting 3ppg 4rpg 1bpg, good per minute stats, but he really just started getting decent playing time. If by the time he's qualified he's maintaining this, I'll give him that respect, for now it's still a very small sample size (only 253 minutes, about 7-8 games worth of starting minutes).
