Only 3 centers in the NBA have a higher PER: D. Cousins, M. Gasol, and C.Bosh, and Bosh is really a PF who was playing out of position, and is back to playing PF now with Whiteside. I can definitely see your prediction coming true, maybe even sooner.

2 things:

(1) You mention Whiteside in relation to Bosh, but fail to include him as a center having a higher PER than Gobert (PER of 25). Maybe he hasn't played in enough games to qualify to show up (16 games) on season stats list, but he will assuredly be playing in every game for the rest of the season.

(2) Gobert will NOT be the best center in the NBA so long as Demarcus Cousins is in the league.

Yeah, Whiteside only has played 16 games, and we're at the midpoint of the season. Whiteside was just averaging 10mpg his first 9 games posting 3ppg 4rpg 1bpg, good per minute stats, but he really just started getting decent playing time. If by the time he's qualified he's maintaining this, I'll give him that respect, for now it's still a very small sample size (only 253 minutes, about 7-8 games worth of starting minutes).

I think that's a decent comparison, Rudy is 3 inches taller and I'm not sure of Camby's wingspan but I know it isn't 7'9, so maybe a longer version of Camby.

Should be a poll on best nickname:

Stifle Tower

I like the Stifle Tower.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I think Rudy is already a better defender than Camby was. Camby was a great weakside defender and stat stuffer, but as a overall defender Rudy is better and his ceiling is higher.

Oh yeah, clearly. Forget that Camby was DPOTY in 2007, 4x all defensive team, and led the league in blocked shots 4 times. Rudy has shown he's surpassed Camby as a defender.

Most seem to be favoring Stifle Tower (which I do like), but I might have to go with Block Cousteau

Some in this thread may think you're selling him a little short with that one

DPOY has been pretty much a stat award, same thing goes for all defensive teams. Camby was a good defender but that DPOY over Duncan was a joke. I think Gobert is a better rim protector, better man to man defender and totally changes the game and alters tonns of shots. Camby was obviously a great shot blocker and a beast on the glass, but rather average in man defence.

Best rim protector in the league already. Those of us who watch him on a regular basis have been saying this for a while, and now the rest of the league is starting to see the light. If he stays healthy, I think he's a multiple DPOY. Maybe I'm guilty of driving the hype train, but if I am, there has been no shortage of people jumping on. Get your ticket soon, as this baby is gonna get real crowded real fast. 8-)

1. Rudy Gobert, Utah Jazz

It's obviously early in Gobert's NBA career but he is quickly making a name for himself as one of the NBA's elite defenders. With a 7-foot-8½" wingspan and a 9-foot-7 standing reach, Gobert barely needs to jump to dunk a basketball. Those freakish measurable have translated onto the court thus far, as foes shoot a league low 37.3 percent at the rim against Gobert and he blocks 2.3 shots per game. However, that's only been in 21.3 minutes per game. Gobert leads the league in blocks per 48 minutes by a significant margin.

You guys should watch the 1st quarter from thursday`s game @ Milwaukee. Gobert plays the first 11+ minutes and the Bucks just give up on attacking the point after a few futile attempts. When Kanter comes in for Gobert with some 45 seconds left, the first thing that happens is that Bucks score an easy lay up. Lol.

Can we turn this thread to Whiteside vs Gobert?
Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I don't even know where it's going. I just hope I find it along the way.

"Lately they don't go in the paint that much, they just shoot jumpshots, and it's pissing me off 'cause I want some blocks, but it's great for the team." - Rudy Gobert after win against Brooklyn

Hassan, might be seeing this sometime soon. Rudy didn't have a single block (although, he had at least 2 that weren't counted) but his rim defense percentage got better after last night.

His ceiling is Whiteside's floor.

I'm only half kidding.

This season, you may be right. Gobert has higher physical potential, but he's sharing minutes with Kanter and Favors, and Whiteside is essentially competing with Bosh (not really) and Chris Andersen?

Whiteside is like 1.4 BPG better than Gobert per 36 mins.
