I think I would. I know a lot of you guys dislike Frye, but at least he knows his role. He would bring some stability to our bench, and might provide that veteran leadership. With Harris at SF, I don't think we need an upgrade at PF as he could provide some help with rebounding. Plus I know nobody respects Tucker's shot because he has that terrible shotput inconsistent jumper. Well that defender would no longer be able to play loosely as Harris can hit the three with consistency.
I also see this trade as being easier for the Magic to do as they get rid of Frye... and we know how to use Frye more effectively.
No. Suns are giving up too much. Suns didn't want to pay Frye that much in July, you think they do now? I'm also not convinced the Magic want to take on PJ's salary, sure it's better than Frye's, but it's still not the best thing for a team that's probably trying to bottom out. If you made a deal of IT/Bullock or Warren/Plumlee for Harris/Ben Gordon, I think that makes better sense for both teams.
Agreed. I want nothing to do with Frye's $8M per for the next 3 years--that really hamstrings us going forward. Your 1st deal is better, but not sure they'd want IT's contract anymore than PJ's.
But on more general terms, why is everyone so adamant about getting Harris? I keep reading how SF is a position of need, but I really don't see that with having PJ/Mook/Warren already on the roster. We keep hearing about how much we have invested at the PG position, but add Harris at his $12Mish estimated salary, and all of a sudden we have nearly $25M invested next year at the SF position. The only reason I'd want Harris is if we intended to use him as a PF to share time with Kieff, or if we used Mook at the 4 exclusively. Either way is fine with me, and at that point, sure, bring him on. Both Harris and Mook have the requisite size to defend at the 4, and both have extensive minutes at the 4 as well. But then, we have Warren, who will likely be ready next season to get meaningful minutes at the 3.
Basically, I think McD messed up by signing PJ long-term at that cost. He should be a $4M per backup. They signed both Mook and PJ longterm, then drafted Warren--why? Neither are NBA starter-worthy SFs. We signed two back-ups, pure and simple. but if they move Mook to PF exclusively, trade PJ, then bring in Harris to share time with Warren at the 3, then great.
Bledsoe/Ennis/Ridnour
Dragic/Goodwin/Dragic/B. Gordon
Harris/Warren/Bullock
Kieff/Mook
Len/Wright/Plumlee
(or swap Mook and Harris, which ever is better)
If we could get to something like that next season, or heck, after the trade deadline, then great. We are only 'weak' at one position (PF)--not two, like we are now. And with that lineup going forward, we are probably easily an 7-8 seed team, as I bet Dragic becomes motivated and starts to return to last year's level of play. This would require us to trade PJ, IT, and Green, for Ridnour, Harris, and B. Gordon, which they'd never do, unless we included the LAL 1st for their trouble.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ojcsprf ...or we keep IT, and included some other draft pick considerations.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lgewdwm IDK, but we need to change something soon, and IMO, PJ needs to be one of the 1st players gone and either let Warren start, or get a T. Harris-type via trade/FA, because PJ as a starter is a hindrance to our success.
