Because if we missed we would've had time to get a offensive rebound or play the fouling game. The only time it's best to run the clock down for the last shot is if you're tied where the worst that can happen is OT.
Don't need that much time to get a rebound off a miss, wait five to ten more seconds. I guess I can see the fouling situation, but if you're down two and you start fouling with 14 seconds left the game is pretty much over anyway. Would much rather be the one taking the last shot out of a set play.
That's not smart basketball unless we were a tanking team with nothing to lose against one of the top teams in the league where we knew we couldn't stand a chance in OT.
