I think Henson is a far better fit for this team than Kanter, plus he's cheap for one more year. Plus we don't have to include a first. We don't really have the cap space for Kanter either anyway, unless Sanders is bought out and stretched. But he's a black hole, bad defender, and not a good passer.

Not me. Having Kanter and Parker down low = zero rim protection on defense. Kanter would be a bad fit long-term.

Exchanging head cases. We cut a year off of each contract, save 2.9 in cap and we have the more usable headcase.

Or are we better off just buying Larry out?

I'd try it - at the least it saves $ - can also always buy out lance for less than larry

Given what has come out about Larry, I see a 0% chance any team trades for him right now. Now if he comes back, we get a few puff pieces about him overcoming his demons, then it's a different ball game.

Why is building organically out the window of you move Ersan, Mayo, Knight, Middleton, etc....

Building organically as in through the draft and developing players under Kidd's system.

Henson alone is more valuable to this team than Kanter. Henson's length is a big part of our top defense right now. Kanter is slow footed and not nearly as long. His offensive talents are mitigated by his single minded focus on scoring. Plus he's a RFA who now has a reputation (along with his reps) for being difficult to deal with.

I will be livid if we give up significant assets for Lawson.

Depending on what you mean by 'significant', I'd be okay with it if we also then flipped Knight for future assets (young player or draft picks). That would be a great balance of now and future.

I don't think it would happen, but I could see a scenario like;

DEN OUT: Lawson, Hickson

HOU IN: Knight, Dudley, ZaZa
HOU OUT: T. Jones, Capela, PaPa, Canaan, J. Terry

MKE IN: Lawson,Hickson, PaPa, Capela, Canaan
MKE OUT: Ersan, Knight, Dudley, ZaZa, MKE 2016 1st, LAC 2017 1st

Denver gets the picks they wanted for Lawson plus Jones. Ersan needed for salary purposes.

Houston gets to keep Beverly and DMo but still cashes in some of the younger guys to win.

Milwaukee pulls the win now and win later move.

I'm not for a Knight + Clippers pick for Lawson deal, but if it happened, I wouldn't be that upset either. Lawson was my favorite player in college when he was at UNC though, so it would be fun to have him on my favorite NBA team.

Would getting Ty Lawson kind of be like our trade for Sam Cassel? A solid vet PG to go with two young stars to complete a big 3.
Lawson = Sam
Giannis = Ray
Jabari = Big Dog
Middleton = A better version of Tim Thomas

Obviously different games but it could be the type of move that pushes us towards the top of the East.

Utah's gonna have to come down on their price, but if there are indeed "several teams" still interested, then no thanks. What's the point of giving up major assets if you can just float him an offer sheet this summer? I don't see any way the Jazz cripple their salary cap any further after investing such absurd amounts of years and dollars in Hayward, Favors, and Burks.

My guess is that they're desperate to get value for Kanter before the deadline or via sign & trade in the offseason.

There was something in the Lowe piece that stuck with me:

But that’s where the league’s new cap environment becomes a factor. There is a feeling around the league that teams that aren’t free-agent destinations are coming to grips with their cap room being less valuable than ever. If free-agency behemoths have major room, the little guys will scrap for leftovers over the next few summers. Dealing for a player on an expiring contract, or even a guy with just one year left, holds less appeal than it used to. That guy can bolt almost immediately and enter a frothy marketplace of beaches, big cities, and friendly tax jurisdictions.

On the flip side, draft picks and rookie-scale contracts are fixed through the 2020-21 season2 at dollar amounts that won’t increase as quickly as the cap. Young players will get proportionally cheaper every season. So will veteran players locked up on contracts signed over the last couple of years — the pre-spike deals. Contracts that look pricey and long now aren’t so bad, especially if the guy attached can play.

I think teams like Utah and Milwaukee are going to be more apt to throw huge money at their own guys this summer, because in the summer or '16 their chances of landing a young productive free agent basically goes out the window. The Bucks and Jazz are in similar spots with Knight and Kanter. Normally neither would be worth massive eight figure deals, but when you realize that if those same guys were free agents a year later they'd be getting insane offers, it could be worth overpaying for this summer. It could even make trading for Kanter enticing, even if he isn't a very valuable player at the moment.

Jazz are getting Middleton from y'all. We don't want Henson. The whole point of trading Kanter is too free up the minutes in the big rotation. We don't need Henson's hot trash self.

Y'all are done building "organically". Y'all are in the **** East and will make the PO. Your days of drafting top tier lottery talent is over. Now you have to start making trades and signing FA. I hate Kanter, as a Jazz fan, but he does have more potential than anyone on your team other than Parker and Giannis. If Kidd really is a defensive mastermind having Kanter could be huge for your team.

You could wait to just sign him to an offer sheet, but you will be competing with other teams. Utah will probably match any decent offer on him too, just so they can retain an asset.

Henson's going to be a really, really interesting case. I think if he's smart he bets on himself and waits until RFA in '16. But if I'm the Bucks I'm making every effort to extend him this summer.

ETA: And yea, if I've got the choice between Henson and Kanter, I'm taking Henson every day. Middleton isn't even in the discussion.

I'd be down for that deal. That's sort of the perfect buy low, low risk move. If Utah wants something more, then move on.

Every year I am left irate by what we do at the trade deadline. This year, I think the only thing that would make me mad would be trading Middleton. (Obviously Giannis and Parker too but that isn't realistic).

I wouldn't even be upset if we just kept Knight. He is improving every year (FG% gets better & assists go up). He's still incredibly young and seems to be a great guy with work ethic. I'm fine with moving him, but won't be upset if we keep him. I still think he can learn to move the ball more. Looking at Lawson's stats he averaged around 6 assists when he was younger. Knight is moving in the right direction.

If we could somehow net good assets for Mayo and Ersan that would be an incredible deadline.

Of the win now rumors, still think Gibson makes the most sense. He's tough, he can shoot the jumper, and he can rebound reasonably well. You throw Knight/Middleton/Giannis/Gibson/Henson out there and that team can really cause some issues, IMO. Still have three guys who can space the floor as well with Knight/Middleton/Gibson. Now, I obviously don't sell the farm for him, but I'd throw Mayo/Clips 1st out there to see if they bite.
