Congratulations Pau Gasol: 50 Double Doubles

Post#1 » by kodo » Sat Apr 4, 2015 5:35 am

Congratulations to Pau Gasol on his 50th double double.

ESPN:
Gasol had 26 points and 10 rebounds for his 50th double-double of the season, helping the Bulls beat the Detroit Pistons 88-82 on Friday night. Gasol became the first Bulls player to reach 50 double-doubles since Charles Oakley had 53 during the 1986-87 season.

Pau leads the league in double doubles this year.
Gasol: 50
Cousin: 45
Vucevic: 42
Drummond: 42
DJ: 42
Anthony Davis: 38

Only 3 players in the league achieved 50 double doubles last season.

Pau looks like he turned the clock back 5 years. This is his best season since 2011. He's also been healthy.
The Pau signing has been even better than I thought.

Glad that he's a Bull. Hopefully we can make this worthwhile for him and win it all.

Pau Gasol is the weakest link in the front court...or at least I have been told by a couple of people on this board.

Pau's got his strength's and weaknesses, but overall a key piece for our squad.

It doesn't always feel like he grabs the important boards, but Pau quietly fills it up on the boards every game. Good on him, playing some really quality basketball.

The numbers are great and he's been a big contributor throughout the season, but the snarky dismissive attitude towards people questioning his effectiveness is a bit uncalled for in my opinion. Despite the numbers, he fails to pass the eye test quite frequently. When I watch Pau, I start to get very antsy if he isn't scoring. I think he has to be treated with a quicker hook than he usually is because if he's not getting you points, he's hurting you on the other end of the floor. He may get blocks, but never if they're a step out of the airspace he immediately occupies when an opponent makes his move to the rim. His lack of mobility, the way he sags so far back on pick and rolls, his infuriating lapses in boxing out and coughing up offensive boards for the opposing team all go a long way towards negating the very impressive stats he puts up. Last night's monster putback was emblematic of the season he's had; it just barely edged out the horribly blown play on the other side of the ball moments before.

Of course, having said all that, he's still having a pretty good season and we've absolutely needed his scoring at times, especially with the injuries and all. Also, I really suspect that he's helped facilitate Niko's transition to the NBA and America in general. I guess I just felt like being a bit of a Debbie Downer. Sorry.

We should feel very fortunate that we have Pau on this team.

He has been a great signing on and off the court. He seems to be mentoring Niko as well which is great.

Probably the best non-rookie contract in the entire NBA. Kudos to the FO on a great signing. A signing I didn't like or understand at the time.

Isnt Steph Curry only making something like 10 million a year?

He is on a great contract because the Warriors gave him a long term deal when he had all those injuries. Good on them for locking him at 11 or so mil a year.

I remember when all of you guys hated the signing so much after we didn't get Melo. He's been the reason we've stayed afloat all year. Congrats Pau. 1st-team All-NBA for sure
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

edit 7/30/21: okay maybe not, but it was a fun ride nonetheless

Was lukewarm on the signing but he's having one of his best seasons ever and is a huge bargain.

A good signing and a very good contract. He sucks at defense though and that can't be understated. That's a key reason we haven't been a great team with all of our talent. He's probably one of the worst defenders at the C position. It creates a difficult choice to play him or not because Noah sucks on offense. I guess the obvious attempt to reconcile that has been to play Pau with Taj and Jo with Niko as much as possible, but Thibbs hasn't been willing to do that because of the desire to start the most accomplished vets in Jo and Pau.

nahhh Steph makes 11M, that's by far the best contract in the NBA and remember OKC and SA were offering only the MLE to Pau
