Ditch Melo.. maybe try to get the Lakers to take Melo for their two first rounders and ehh.. the Kentucky guy they drafted.
Spend this year developing a roster of young talented player, draft another lottery pick, and then fill out the roster with free agents.

It's more likely that the Knicks field 5 unicorns in the starting lineup next season than any of this happening.

Oh yah, i completely agree. The Knicks have this history (at least recently, in the modern era) of not doing whats best for their franchise.

That and Melo's No Trade clause

I think with their flame out in the playoffs the Bulls are going to be desperate to make some sort of move. I think we could maybe pry Gibson from them at this point. They have a glut at the 4 with no real scorer. Maybe a 3 way deal.

Unless you want to give up a first we have nothing to trade besides Timmy.

Taj should def be available though.

With Noah's decline due to his surgically repaired knee, I could see them shopping his expiring in the offseason. He is also a "Thibs' guy", and if the Bulls are in fact moving on from him, there will definitely be some shakeup in that locker room.

If we struck out on the key big's in Free Agency, would Noah be an option PJax would consider? Would Cap Space and Timmy be enough to get Chicago to consider? Would his recent play and injury concerns make you not even consider?

He's useless on offense but, with Melo aboard and hopefully another scoring threat that weakness could be negated somewhat. He's still a solid defender, good rebounder, and not a bad passer out of the high post. If we ended up with a line-up of:
Galloway
Winslow
Melo
LMA
Noah

I couldn't complain too much about that

i have to wonder if Butler sees a team that couldn't beat the Love-less Cavs when fully healthy - ok, Pau was injured 2 games - as a better option than NY or LA

Especially if they are dumping Thibs for Hoiberg of all people

Im hoping he comes to NY now

he has no say in the matter though, the bulls can and almost assuredly will match.

Josh Smith as a potential low risk high reward signing?
I know he has cancerous qualities but could be a good signing at a low level contract. Thinking 1 year at $4mil with player option for year 2.
Obviously depends on how we fill out front court, but I can see him playing the Odom role in the triangle and be a good 6th man off the bench

I HATE just about everything about Josh Smith, and his game, but he would be a decent low risk / high value for that type of contract...especially next to a guy like Okafor should he be our selection. I just don't think Josh can ever play in a structured offensive system..he doesn't have the basketball IQ, or the selflessness it requires.

I always thought he'd fit well next to Melo, and with the vet leadership we had on that 50-win team a few years back.

This offseason, if we can't land any of the big fish, I'd hope we at least get good value on our money. Guys like Josh Smith and Rajon Rondo (which I doubt would be the direction Phil chooses), can be the biggest bangs for the buck, while still having the cap space to bring in a 3rd impact player.

If Phil wasn't at the helm, I could see something like...

Rajon Rondo
Wesley Matthews (Danny Green)
Carmelo Anthony
Josh Smith
Jahlil Okafor

Not my ideal scenario, but one with high upside if they build the chemistry.

I agree with you. I do think he can play in this offense though, he has good playmaking abilities and is a pretty good passer. Can see him running the Gasol/Bynum high/low lob play with Towns :)

Im out on Rondo though, no interest. Huge ego, declining skills, cant shoot.
Atleast Smith seems humble out there

Josh Smith can't play in this offense -- he doesn't react fast enough. Sure he can pass some but he won't move/cut fast enough and he like IMAN/JR would look like a lost puppy in the triangle.

That's the worst idea I've heard. He's been awful and he doesn't show signs of being DPoY ever again.

One last try for this idea show some love/feedback.

Trade THJ and Calderon for a second rounder.

Trade the first for Video Game Dame
Sign Wes Matthews or Danny Green at the 2
DeMare Caroll at 3
Play Melo at the 4
Sign a Big at the 5. Marc Gasol is the longest shot but if the other pieces agree to come I don't see why not. Better chance than Memphis.

Then trade Langston Galloway for a first. That's a good squad with 3 all stars and two great two way players. The bench is the best players we have here now. Use the MLE on whatever you need most.

What do you think of this plan? Keep in mind Dame was injured for half the year with a hand injury. His production as of late isn't representative of his play.

Bulls board all assuming the Knicks would pick up Noah as a salary dump this offseason.
I love Noah but i pass. Dude went through Thibs system, means his knees will fall off by the time hes 30.

there's no way to make it work salary wise, they'd have nothing to trade to match up salaries
*edit* he'll be a free agent before 30 so if he's gonna fall apart he'll be doing so as a free agent

Can't remember a guy having a worse offensive series than Noah --- I mean he missed the rim on 4-5 point-blank layups and was throwing up short-range bricks that could have killed someone.

Can someone with a decent knowledge of salaries please do me a favor and post. What most likely the top free agents salaries will be next year.

Also how much cap space do we have? do we have 30 million?

I would sincerely appreciate it.

I said it a few months ago, but I could actually see Chicago listening to something around Jose and Tim for Gibson. They probably try to get some 2nds or Early/Thanasis out of us too though. José and Rosé would be a nice back court. You could easily get Jose 25 mpg there giving him all of Rose's back up minutes and playing them like 10 minutes next to each other. And I think Chicago is always looking for 3 point shooters, so Tim helps.

The point is that between Mirotic, Pau, Noah, and eventually McDermott- Chicago is going to want to turn Gibson into backcourt help (unless they decide to keep him over Pau). The problem is that Chicago is notoriously cheap, then again Tim is on his rookie deal and Jose only has 2 years, $15 mil left. And I think this only happens after Butler's situation is cleared up, because with NY has probably the biggest threat for him to walk to (then again they could ALWAYS block that)... they might not want to make a deal with us.

I didn't even mention how perfect Gibson is for the Knicks. Regardless of who we draft or sign, Gibson is a big I want here- although ideally as a starter because I think he can really blow up if given the opportunity.

There's also the possibility that if Chicago retains Butler, they'll look to shed salary to minimize their payroll. So we can give them either a few seconds or Tim and a decent TPE for Gibson.

Bigger picture though: I think it might end up being Noah that gets traded, since he makes more money and can walk in a season.
