I know he has cancerous qualities but could be a good signing at a low level contract. Thinking 1 year at $4mil with player option for year 2.
Obviously depends on how we fill out front court, but I can see him playing the Odom role in the triangle and be a good 6th man off the bench
I HATE just about everything about Josh Smith, and his game, but he would be a decent low risk / high value for that type of contract...especially next to a guy like Okafor should he be our selection. I just don't think Josh can ever play in a structured offensive system..he doesn't have the basketball IQ, or the selflessness it requires.
I always thought he'd fit well next to Melo, and with the vet leadership we had on that 50-win team a few years back.
This offseason, if we can't land any of the big fish, I'd hope we at least get good value on our money. Guys like Josh Smith and Rajon Rondo (which I doubt would be the direction Phil chooses), can be the biggest bangs for the buck, while still having the cap space to bring in a 3rd impact player.
If Phil wasn't at the helm, I could see something like...
Rajon Rondo
Wesley Matthews (Danny Green)
Carmelo Anthony
Josh Smith
Jahlil Okafor
Not my ideal scenario, but one with high upside if they build the chemistry.
