Anybody have some tips? I only workout at home now (bench, curls, calf raises, perfect pushup system, etc), but am considering joining anytime fitness as it would only be $8 through my work company.

I, like many others here it seems, love drinking so besides cutting that out what can I do?

Top 4 ways to not get a six pack:

1) "ab workout/at home" equipment
2) a **** ton of crunches
3) starving yourself (abs are muscle, you have to feed your muscles for them to grow)
4) fat loss pills, shakes, etc

there are essentially 4 basic movement patterns of your abs: truck flexion (upper abs), hip flexion (lower abs), rotation (oblique's), and laxteral flexion (oblique's).

you have to hit all 4 movements to grow your abs.

also.. eat right. low(er) carbs, high protein, less sugar, GOOD fats.

Your body is a machine, if you're putting on fat, you're basically consuming more calories than you're burning. As a big picture, in order to keep your weight the same, your caloric intake = your calories burned.

What drinking does is give you a TON of empty calories. 2 good beers is the same as 1 large chicken breast.

You can do all the ab workouts you want, your abs will be very strong, but you'll still carry that extra fat unless you either start having less calories, or start exercising more (the former is much, much easier than the latter -- and a much better long-term solution)

Yeah, diet is the hardest thing for me especially since I enjoy grilling and homebrewing. But ultimately an improved diet I think is a big key to getting the look one wants.

After years of reading this thread and everyone's positive results while eating pizza or Taco Bell at 2 in the morning I finally decided to start doing something about my health. I weighed 223 at 5"11" in mid-March when I realized that things were starting to get a little out of hand. As of this morning I am at 188 and it feels really good. I've always been the farthest thing from a health nut so I'm pretty proud of myself. The ultimate goal is to probably lose another 15-20 pounds, maybe build a little more muscle.

For the first couple weeks I cut sugar completely and tried very hard to avoid carbs while making a point to jog/run at least 5 days a week. That was obviously effective but I realized pretty fast that I'm not a diet person. I try now to just eat two lighter, reasonably healthy meals(usually breakfast and lunch) and then pretty much whatever I want(within reason) for dinner, just not an obscene portion size. That seems to be working well enough. No soda and no fast food have been key too. Those two things have obviously been killing my weight/overall health for years. All basic stuff that is easy to do and really does work. Hell, I'm lazy as **** so if I can do it, anyone can do it.

Was wondering if anyone had a recommendations for a workout routine for someone who literally has never lifted a single weight in his life? I'm pretty much doing exclusively cardio right now. Luckily my job involves lifting somewhat heavy things on a regular basis so I think I built a little upper body strength that way, but not much.

Has anybody tried filling an exercise ball with water? Best thing I ever did home fitness wise.

I filled a small one with sand and was a good 40 pound weight but looks really homemade/crappy. I filled a basketball with sand (3/4s) and covered the whole with a tire plug. Great twenty pound weight to toss around

Mine weighs ~120 lbs and was a crazy thing to get accustomed to lifting. Ridiculously good for core work and grip.

I've been looking forward to (dreaming, really) about pitching again for almost a decade. I literally **** up the entire left side of my body on my first warmup pitch today because the mound was an abortion after huge rain. Got through an inning but could barely walk once I stopped moving.

Starting my long over due low carb diet.... did it in my mid 20's and lost 60 lbs in 4 months without working out... my biggest problem was not having any energy on the no carb diet... anyone have experience with a low carb diet and recommend any supplements/vitamins to help with energy? I need to work out a little more as im in my 30's and need to stay active.

Sorry to hear man. The mound is definitely my happy place. I think I'll pitch until my left shoulder disintegrates.

Semi related side note. A pitcher on my team is UW Lacrosse's closer, they just advanced to their first ever college world series(d3). Think I may have to go up to Appleton this weekend to watch him.

That's awesome for him, but it's still so amusing to hear you guys refer to a Inter-college event as a 'world series'!

That sucks. I really hope you'd done some pre-training, but I suspect I know the answer.

I've been throwing for a couple weeks but that wasn't the problem. I was just expecting solid footing and where I thought my plant was going to be there was just a hole. I filled it in immediately after but it was too late. Jammed something on my left side.

As much as I'd like some vicodin today I'm not gonna go in for it. The pain is nuts, though. Started in my ass and now it's made its way up to my rib cage.

Abs are made in the kitchen! You have to watch your diet to get a 6 pack.

Well that just sucks. If you can rope anyone at all into massaging you thru there, try and do it. Ass, obliques, back - whatever you can get!
