Kawhi Leonard or Marc Gasol.
Should the Hawks???
I'm not in favor in signing anybody to max contract, but realistically, with Coach Budz, all the young talent, and all the good contract the Hawks have, the Hawks have a legit shot at contending or winning multiple championships in the next 5 years.
Horford is 28 years old and won't be anywhere near a decline until he is 33 or 34.
Should the Hawks go for it and make a "win it now" move or moves???
The Hawks have to make a decision about Millsap and Carroll. Both guys are fan favorites, but if the Hawks can get a up grade or even just a slight up grade at any position, it could thrust them into multiple Finals appearances.
As for Teague, he is a big part of the offense and defense, but with his contract, he is easily moveable. Teague grew up as a Hawk and it would be hard to see him in another uniform, but if a good deal could bet got, then maybe that is something the Hawks should consider.
Coach Budz raised Kawhi Leonard, so the Hawks have a connection with Kawhi in that way, and the Hawks need a SF/SG. Kawhi will never contend for an MVP, but he is elite enough to be a franchise player, especially if you pair him with a perennial all star like Horford. A big three of Horford, Kawhi, and Schroder, in Buds' system could be elite enough to win a championship.
The Hawks need a center. Horford should move to power forward. Hawks fans have been hearing this for the last decade and Marc Gasol is the best center hitting free agency, so logically Marc Gasol should come up in conversation when talking about the Hawks in the off season. I have noticed that Budz looks for three things in all his players, defense, shooting, and ability to run. Only a few centers in the NBA can fit into Budz system, Duncan, Anthony Davis, Bosh, Al Horford, and Marc Gasol. Marc is a legit 7 footer who can shoot, run, and play defense. Having Marc at center and Horford at power forward could give the Hawks the best front court duo in the NBA and also make them elite enough to win a championship.
Here are some other free agents who could improve the Hawks:
LaMarcus Aldridge - stretch 7 footer who fits in what the Hawks like to do on offense.
Jimmy Butler - probably won't leave Chicago, but his skill set is identical to Kawhi.
Greg Monroe - He is bigger than Millsap, but talent wise, they are probably the same. Might not be a big improvement, or just a lateral move.
Monta Ellis - a season or two ago, it was Rumored that coach Budz has man crush on Monta's game. Most of us don't like Monta as a player, but Budz seems to think he would thrive in his offense and who are we to argue with coach Budz.
I'm not saying the Hawks will get a free agents, what i'm asking is, should the Hawks go after a top five free agent???
For me, if Gasol or Kawhi says yes, then it would be worth letting Millsap and/or Carroll go.
