I'm down with Melo to Lakers for #2, I like Melo but hes going to be 31yr coming off knee surgery he's not going to win here his window is closing.
If we were able to sign LMA or Gasol than I would keep Melo but I don't think we are going to be able to land anyone.

I am with you, I am not up for gambling on free agency we have a bad reputation (read: Dolan), and are coming off a losing season. Pulling in free agents will be a challenge, make a move to reboot the entire franchise with young homegrown talent.
LA is willing to trade the number 2? We aggressively go after that option then, failing to attempt to acquire that pick for Melo would be outrageous.

sad to say, if carmelo wanted to go to LA, i'd pull the trigger on such a deal too. moving forward with 2 and 4 and a crap ton of cap space would be pretty awesome.
love you, melo. but i do that.
if it weren't for the no-trade clause, i'd have done it already. hahahaha. but this would require a very delicate and uncomfortable conversation that kind of can't even be approached.

I do not think it is unreasonable, Melo for the 2nsd pick in the draft. You trade youth and potential for an established star who can contribute at an all star level right now. You would pair him with Kobe... how can you pass that up? Durant for 2? Durant is younger, and I do not see that making as much sense.
Looking at this from Melo's point of view...
1- He and Kobe are good friends.
2- Melo played his best basketball alongsge Kobe on team USA.
3- He and his wife have a strong LA connection.
4- His career is winding down, he already compares himself to LeBron and Wade. He does not want to retire without a ring.
5- If LeBron and Cleveland win this year JR Smith will have a ring, Melo does not want to see that go down either. Beat by JR Smith?
6- LA is a great place for endorsements and other ways to make money.
7- Kobe and Melo short term making a run at rings, long term Melo inherits the city then passes the torch in 5 years to whomever.
From LA's Perspective-
1- Much like NY rebuilding is hard in LA, but LA has endured a lot of this and they still have one of their greatest of all time on their roster and they are paying him A LOT to just "tip his cap" to the crowd and never really contend.
2- Melo is made for LA and has star power, a famous wife, and can generate a lot of buzz.
3- Melo and Kobe teaming up with whomever the two of them can recruit is a great story line, and California the home of Hollywood LOVES a good story with a happy ending.
4- Potentially seeing a Laker great in Kobe tying or passing Jordan's ring count is another amazing story to behold. Something people would talk about for ages on end.
5- With the money Kobe is making now it is hard to rebuild and compete. It is almost impossible to go 50/50 rebuild and contend.
6- Lots and lots of money to be made in staying relevant now, and contending with Kobe. Money talks.
Why it makes sense for Kobe-
1- He wants to tie Jordan or beat him to silence his critics.
2- Kobe is not going to be happy with losing and he is going to chew up a rookie who is not able to get it done from day one.
3- Kobe is not a guy who is happy with "rebuilding" he is not going to be okay with another losing season where he misses the playoffs thus damaging his legacy.
4- Kobe is older, and he needs help. He is amazing but needs to reinvent himself slightly much like Jordan relied more on his fade away than his penetration and elevation towards the end of his career. Kobe needs to preserve his body and Melo can still take some abuse.
5- Adding his friend in Melo gives them a big two, one player away fro ma big three and we have Love available who would help a lot on this team either with spacing or running the offense on the second team. I actually think he would thrive in LA as he was ill used in Cleveland. One does not simply not tell Kevin Love he is now Chris Bosh.
Why it makes sense for the Knicks-
1- Rebuild through youth and the draft, repair past damage done by throwing away first round picks.
2- Rebooting the franchise, now with young players as attracting name free agents will be a challenge after a nightmare season.
3- Teaching younger guys the offense we want to run is easier than teaching old dogs new tricks. JR could not learn the offense same for others, Jordan started running this offense young as did Kobe. The triangle is second nature to them.
4- We are not likely to assemble a team in time to win within Melo's window of opportunity given the challenges in NY, and distinct lack of cap and star power.
“They came in at the 25th hour, they swooped in there,’’ Anthony told reporters, according to the New York Post. “It was a great visit. The conversations I had with Kobe was just man to man. We both had to come to reality and say, ‘Is this what we really want?’ And it didn’t happen.
“We’ve been talking for a long time, man, especially this summer, just me and him communicating, and talking and being honest with one another as friends and brothers should be. It was a lot going on there on his behalf and my behalf trying to figure everything out.’

Hows he going to do it here if we don't land him any help? You think LMA or Gasol are coming here? I wish they do but reality is setting in Knicks are so bad that even us having a star in Melo isn't enough to attract big free agents anymore.

But these are just my opinions.
