But we lost with a one armed Milsap, no Korver and Thabo and a basically no legged Demarre. I think it gives them false hope.
I love the team oriented thing, but we need to build a team that can survive injuries like Cleveland did. Cleveland had two HUGE injuries and went from a elite offensive team to a elite defensive team with their replacements. We went from an elite team to a pretty good team with the injuries.
Simply put, you aren't going to be able to have guys that are just as good offensively coming off the bench. But you can have a group of lock down defenders coming and I am in favor of that.
That's why I don't want to move Korver to the bench(although I would for Matthews or Danny Green). I would rather just reup on the defensive second unit so that when a starter goes down we simply get better defensively.
That worked for Cleveland because they had a triple threat option in Lebron. We don't have anything close to it unfortunately. Our bench needs an upgrade on both the offense and defensive end.
If the starters weren't producing on offense, then we hit dry runs and couldn't buy a bucket. Which led to other teams getting leads on us and then having us to waste a big run just to catch up. Our defense wasn't the issue these playoffs, so much as to that our offense just couldn't score.
Defensively, we only need a rim protector. Thabo and Schroder are fine defenders. We didn't have Thabo, and Schroder killed us offense at times. Add a rim protector to the second unit, and we now have a more solid 3 man rotation.
We need an offensive spark off the bench. Finding a replacement for Korver in the starting lineup, and signing a big that get us a bucket would really give us some life off the bench. I'm really high on bringing in Amare and just bringing him and Korver off the bench. Korver can save his legs until we need them, and Amare can flourish as a 6th man.
This assuming we re-sign or upgrade from Millsap though, and bring in a guy like Matthews. Carroll might be the odd man out sadly. Personally, I would rather keep Carroll and let Sap walk, so we could have the money to re-sign Carroll, sign Matthews, Amare, and still get a competent PF or C replacement(depending on what we do with Horford).
1-Teague/Schroder
2-Matthews/Korver/Bazemore
3-DMC/Thabo/Bazemore
4-Horford/Amare
5-FA/Tavares
