The idea here is that I think the Jazz will value Porzingis and maybe Johnson more than Detroit does, and that might motivate a deal both ways. Guys like Portis, Lyles or possibly Kaminsky would be good fits with Drummond. Whereas they'd be back-ups with the Jazz. I think the Jazz would part with Burke, future 1st (though these will probably be in the teens or 20s), a 2nd-rd pick, and be willing to take salary.

Detroit does need a power forward to pair with Drummond, but small forward is an even bigger priority. The Pistons need real wing talent to go with Jackson at the point and Drummond in the middle. There are a few interesting free agent options at power forward butthe available small forwards are downright abysmal outside of Carroll.

I think the general consensus on Jenning is that it will be a little ways into the season before he's able to contribute and even then he probably won't be nearly as effective. Achilles injuries are pretty bad and even a full year isn't enough time to come back completely healthy (if that happens at all). It's not that big of a deal though when Jackson is more than likely going to be signed to a long-term contract.

looking at this shoddy free agent crop, im starting to think overpaying Carroll 25% on a 3 year deal might be their best bet this off season. if hes looking at 8 per year, offer him 10, for example. there really isnt anything worth spending money on in this group, other than rfa's and the upper tier guys they have no shot at.

He will next year, the only reason he didn't this year was because the Jazz didn't have a good record before the break but they did in the second half and I expect that to continue into next season.

I wouldn't hesitate to do Hood/12 for 8. Hood is very promising- he plays a position of need and can really shoot the ball, hes also got a nice handle and an adequate defeder. He showed more in his freshman year than KCP did.

I would take Hood and run because although 26 games is a small sample size, its clear that the talent and ability is there. The kid got better every month of the season. I think he will put it together and become a Khris Middleton caliber player. Getting a G/F like Hood while still being able to take a guy like Oubre or Portis at 12 would be the best case scenario

Jazz fan here. If Detroit isn't interested in Porzingis, Johnson or whomever else is available at 8, would they consider trading down to 12 for Kaminsky, Turner, Portis or Lyles if the Jazz offered Burke and/or a future pick? The idea is that Detroit would get a developing young PG effectively replacing Augustine and a PF to help replace Monroe. Jazz maybe take back a bit of salary.

For Trey Burke? We just traded away Burke's ceiling (DJ Augustin) who has had a stronger command of running a team and keeping a system under control. I certainly hope we wouldn't go after Trey Burke.

Its possible to trade to 12 and still get Johnson. Still I would think the Jazz as some point have to stop taking a lottery pick every yr and trading the RFA to be at the deadline. In a way they are using the 76ers strategy or at worst using the Donald Sterling strategy of cheap NBA labor.

The only trade up that's worth it for me is Hezonja and if he was there, you would probably prefer to just pick him, instead of trade back. I would also prefer to add 2 future firsts instead of Hood, to be fair...

I'd have to accept that, too... assuming you're talking about Utah picks in 2016 and 2018. I like the future in Utah as well as most young teams, but you're still one injury to Gobert away from going backwards. That chance is worth the 4 spots in the draft if SVG has settled on some guy(s) that'll be there at 12. Hezonja doesn't excite me... too risky.

2 future firsts would be too much IMO, especially when you're only jumping 4 spots.

Even a pick in the early 20s is valuable - cheap labor for 4 years if you trust your scouts to do their job properly

My personal view as a Jazz fan is that the Jazz really like the Euros in this draft, but assuming they're gone by 7, the Jazz probably like Turner and Johnson. The way things are shaking out, one of those guys may well slip to 12. It really depends on whether Payne, Lyles or Kaminsky shake things up. But I think the Jazz would offer a gentleman's deal to move up to 9 (CHA) or 8 (you guys) to ensure they get one of those players. Charlotte would do well to pick up Booker or Hunter and add another asset in the process.

Just FYI, Bobby Portis worked out in Utah today and said he has a workout coming up for Detroit. I think Portis is a good fit for the Pistons, but I think 8 is a few slots above where he should get drafted. If he wows the Pistons, they could look at trade-down scenarios into the Jazz's range.
