I don't think that it works that way. They set the height of the whole apparatus at different positions depending on who is jumping, and then the rungs measure distance from that starting point.

Last year when testing Aaron Gordon they had to reset the device because he touched the highest rung.

So I don't think you can tell what this is set to just by the video.

You would think that's for jumping only, though. Standing reach variables wouldn't change nearly as much. Hopefully someone can shed light on this. I asked Derek and Tom so we ll see if they would be able to check on that.

I was just guessing it was 8 feet up based on it looking like it started about a foot above his head. Like I said without knowing exactly we can't tell for sure. Each rung is an inch though.

I mean, this is less than ideal. I know just "sources" from Pompey, but still, less than ideal:

I'm not an expert, but I don't mind Embiid sitting another year... we're not competing for anything this year... him sitting out would be beneficial in numerous ways... it'll better our pick in the upcoming draft.. & we'll be able to get ample time to see how Jahlil meshes with Noel, & Embiid will have had more than enough time by then. Again I'm no expert, but his foot progress is apparently a bit slow... & his skeletal system is seemingly not solidified seeing as he's still sprouting up inches in height, those growth plates are still open.

Just my personal 2cents, I'll be behind whatever the FO decides upon.

I really don't like the idea of a kid who's played the sport of basketball for like 4 years to sit out over 2 years without playing competitive basketball. If its what we gotta do, then so be it.....but I think it puts Embiid's development behind the curve.

If he sits the entire year I will be SEVERELY depressed.

I've been telling you guys. If it was good news we would of heard it already since it would be a simple "Joel is cleared for basketball activities"....However since we haven't seen him play and we're not hearing anything it seems to me they're trying to decide whats best to do with him since the news isn't great.

This #&$^ sucks. :banghead: :banghead:

I understand where you're coming from, I see & feel your perspective as well... my primary concern though is his health, I want him to have a decade+++ career. I'm sure he'll continue workouts (as permitted by doctors) & practicing/training... but it's all different from in game experience. I say see how it progresses from here til the season starts, which is in October? 3-4 months away? This all being under the premise surgery is not necessary, & see how he is at that point... if needed give him several more months... at the point where his foot is safe enough for some basketball activity, play him a bit here & there, 20,25, 28 mins a night; monitoring him & the foot continuously. He'll little by little progress, with his health & foot whilst beginning to get experience as well.

29, I mean I'm cool with it, but it is EXTREMELY frustrating since he is my personal favorite 6ers prospect. Plus I want to prove the doubters and haters wrong so it would be just another year of taking crap from people.

I agree with the other poster. Embiid hasn't played basketball his entire life. His brain was still conditioning itself to play the game. Bball is an extreme muscle memory/hand eye/feel game. I don't care how many corner spot up threes you take in practice. Anyone who actually has played the game competitively knows how it is 100% different playing in a game with game speed to just shooting in practice. I just hope they release something soon so we know one way or another.

Big Z started his career in the NBA at 22 and had a good 13 year career. Relax guys, it's not like we are competing for the finals next year. Sixers sitting him is more of precautionary, and like I said, I think Biid would be playing if he was with the Bucks. Although a healthy biid would be ideal, I think we should be glad that the team is taking a conservative approach than being pressured to showcase him ASAP.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

There is no way to sugarcoat any bad news regarding Embiid's foot. I hope we learn something definitive tomorrow.

Let's just say I'm very happy we have Noel and Okafor. If Embiid can't suit up after a taking over a year off, then I think we should tone down our optimism for him as a long-term prospect who can play 30+ mpg. At the top of most drafts there is a combination of players who become stars, average, and disappointments (due to injury, personality, ability, and/or situation). If Embiid doesn't become a star player because of injury, then so be it. We move forward with two great prospects at PF/C and plenty of other assets. I love Embiid, but my patience for this situation is quickly disappearing because I cannot envision him as a long-term starter if the report above comes to fruition. I guess we should know in a few days. Sorry for the pessimism peeps.
