That's an interesting way to look at it. I wonder if helping to make Lin a better player was part of the Cliff sales pitch. He's improved on weaknesses every year in his quest to be a better player, as we saw in this article:

http://www.jlinportal.com/why-jeremy-lin-will-be-a-good-nba-player-whichever-team-he-lands/

I wonder if he is indeed hoping to shore up those areas by working under Cliff.

If he can tone down on his TOs and fight through screens better he'd be devoid of major flaws.

That makes a lot more sense now. I can imagine he is promised Mo + Lance role with a PnR offense, having a chance to lead the team to the playoffs. He might then get a better long contract after this year. Hornets probably the only team that offers this one year redemption option, his value is really quite low now I imagine after this crap year in LA.

Hornet fan with nearly 4k post. Did you change your name ?

~lol~ Na, Lin fan right here. I used that avatar for Buzzanity.

I think the best thing I've heard in this thread is that Jeremy Lin is the Anti-Lance

Man, sorry to offend. It was a joke. I didn't mean to get ya all up in arms about the comment. I didn't think anybody would have been offended by what I said but since I did I will apologize.

Now about Lin, I think he is a perfect fit for the team as our backup PG and I look forward to seeing what he can do with that second unit and sprinkled in the first unit as well.

Is there confirmation that the second year is a player option? I cannot find that anywhere as a fact but mere speculation. Just like Bonnell saying that Lin was our MLE signing before he knew anything at all and after the report he wasn't.

Eric Pincus reported it, he's generally on top of cap stuff.

Yeah, he's an LA beat writer, but he's been great with his coverage.

Are you talking about Slick Rick? Yeah, it's kind of strange that we have go get our breaking Hornets news from Eric Pincus from the other side of the country

What other local Charlotte beat writers are there besides Bonnell? From competing local papers? I know Charlotte is smaller than NYC (NYTimes, Daily News, NYPost, etc.) or LA (LA Times, LA Daily News, etc), but surely there's more than 1 paper in Charlotte, right? Someone to give Bonnell competition and spur him to get back on his game, perhaps?

Guess we'll have to rely on the nationals like Woj then.

We do seem to leak some intentions to Woj (Belinelli, S&T Mo). Last year we had a really good reporter here in Charlotte named DeAntae Prince. Technically a national guy with the Sporting News, but being that that medium is stationed here we got a lot of local coverage from him.

Of course, SI knows a good thing and scooped him up to cover the Nets. The Sporting News as a whole is still a decent source - namely Chris Littman - but they again focus more on the national level and don't seem to have an "insider" presence.

But then again neither does Bonnell.

I don't even follow Bonnell if that says anything. You will get more info from here on the board and from other national sources. Bonnell hasn't broken a Hornets scoop in I don't know how long. A lot more reliable and faster sources than him.

The last thing he was "first" on was we were trading Matt Barnes to OKC for Jeremy Lamb. At least he got it half right. The player we traded for Lamb wasn't even on our roster at the time.

HOU have a system which is a good fit to Lin, but he had no role b/c of Harden.

Without Harden, he had games leading HOU to win over MAVs and LAC, not to say he scored career-high 38pts over the SPURS and hit 8 3pts against 76ers.

His only triple-doubles was coming off the bench to play against Irving in 2013-14.
Many players did that in at least 34 mins or even overtimes, but Lin was 15+11+10 within 29.2mins.

Here are some articles which made fans believe Lin has the potential to be a star if he was in a right situation.

Pick and Roll:

Drive

Defense

http://lakeshowlife.com/2015/01/08/los-angeles-lakers-jeremy-lin-vs-ronnie-price-ball-defense-edition/

People don't know is, Lin has been improving since NY.
His great performance didn't last because of the changing role and was taken the ball out of his hand.
HOU and LAL fans didn't understand. They complained Lin's game is not consistent.

Lin usage rate:
2011-12 28.1%
2012-13 20.8%
2013-14 20.4%
2014-15 21.9%
The Lakers let Lin handle the ball more (after Kobe was out), but they had no spacing.

Looking at the Linsanity and Woodson taking over (W7-L1), Lin's stats was consistent.

Lin's eFG% in clutch time:
2011-12 43.8% http://www.82games.com/1112/11NYK3.HTM#clutch
2012-13 56.1% http://www.82games.com/1213/12HOU4.HTM
2013-14 52.5% http://www.82games.com/1314/13HOU4.HTM
2014-15 36.8% http://www.82games.com/1415/14LAL1.HTM#clutch

eFG in HOU is over 50% b/c Lin always attacks the rim fearlessly.

I am not optimistic as other fans, but still hope Lin make the right decision going to CHA.
Even Lin is a backup, if the coach gives Lin spacing , more PnR and allows him to finish the game, he can be a 18+6 player.

It's alright man, I'm not offended, just annoyed, that was pretty unnecessary.

I like the Lin pickup a lot of for the Hornets. It may not pan out... Lin is one of the biggest enigmas in the nba. He really HAS been very good, and ALSO has been very bad. Most players don't vary up and down so wildly season to season. But at the price it's a great gamble.

They key thing with Lin is that his rookie season he was the best defensive PG I've seen in a long time. Somewhere along the way he lost that. You don't forget how to defend so I've always wondered if it was health, or perhaps happiness. I think with less pressure and fewer minutes, he has a shot to be the defensive pest he was when he first came into the league.

Dig up the summer league matchup between him and John Wall if you want to see what I'm talking about.

Lin has great % containing shooters. (much better than Beverley)
His PnR defense isn't good in LA because of teammates and communication.
I am not sure he can find a better one in CHA.

Has he been able to defend at that level since his injuries? I figured he had lost a step from what I've read from naysayers.
