I'm a Lakers fan but I've followed Lin since his Harvard days -- I like rooting for underdogs.
His Linsanity period was awesome and I finally understood why people called Madison Square Garden the mecca of basketball. There was so much energy and noise during this period, and the fans really understood how special that moment was. You should watch the Nets game, where it all began, to see how the crowd and Lin worked off each other.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mr3P2JMcd8Houston, despite media portrayals, was actually a fun time too. The Harden/Parsons/Lin team during the first year was run and gun and they put up a lot of points. Unfortunately, the CF site has a lot of people, including the site administrator, who really hated Lin fans and it continues to this day.
The LG site for the Lakers was much better managed and the people there seemed much more tolerant and inviting for new fans.
What I've seen so far of this Hornets site is that people are welcoming and inviting and it seems well run. I think what works is to nip hostile situations in the bud.
