That was the issue with Melo, we didn't put enough strong talent around him. We also need to build a stronger team concept. Mudiay will be our star but in today's NBA that isn't enough. Nurkic, Jokic, Gallo, Chandler, maybe even Lauvergne, Barton and Harris will provide a solid base for Mudiay but that's about what we had before in the Melo era - one star surrounded by solid role players. Nurkic and Gallo could be a little better players than what we had before, but until that manifests into consistency, we're lottery material within the Western Conference. We should have a good shot at a top 3 lottery pick in the 2016 draft which could/should make us viable enough to get a star in 2017 but that may not be guaranteed either as DEN hasn't been a select FA landing spot. So we need to be patient, build through the draft, pray that TC and Kroenke draft well and that Malone can teach some strong defensive scheme's the player's can buy into. I'm not in for a return to the treadmill, even if it takes a couple of painful seasons

I like Mudiay, but you are already anointing him "our star".. right now gallo and chandler are the best players on the nuggets. We an only hope that mudiay becomes a player that is at least as good as Ty lawson. We have to get out of this idea of looking for a savior, that has killed many franchises.. instead look to put 5 allstar caliber players on the floor, similar to that of the hawks, but with a bit more balance( guys not playing out of position like horford ). This is the way you win in the NBA today. if you end up with a great player, then good... but right now I am hoping Mudiay can be as good as the player you just traded...that would be a good start..

The HC has already told him he's the leader of this team, why wouldn't I call him "our star" ??? At 19, he's more of a leader than Ty ever was or will be.....I do see what you're saying, not to put too much pressure on him as we build. Looking at what has been done to build a more team-oriented locker room has already started IMO. Cancers like Ty and McGee have cost us to get rid of but in the long run it'll be worth it. Mudiay is a pass first PF, he actually LIKES making other guys better, you could see that in SL play. Look forward to seeing that a lot in the future.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nuggets-president-josh-kroenke-ty-lawson-210140038.html
Kroenke told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday in a phone interview that the Nuggets had been privately trying to help Lawson with his issues for “the past couple of years” and that there had been problems for a long time.

Kroenke said he had repeated conversations with Lawson about his “life struggles,” adding that Lawson often said he would attempt to fix his issues but he could “never fully shake them.”

“He always had an affinity for burning the candle at both ends,” Kroenke said. “We want to give our players freedom to be young guys as well. We’re not going to be drill sergeants. But we want our guys to be able to handle their personal lives on their own.

I think this was handled very well by both the Nuggets and Ty's agent. I'm glad there isn't finger-pointing. It's pretty sad to read, and puts into context how little the "Rockets fleeced the Nuggets" or "Why didn't they get more for him?" stuff matters. He has very serious personal issues, and really all that matters is he finds a way to get over the hump before serious harm is done to himself or somebody else.

Even those of us wishing they would have traded him earlier are probably kidding ourselves. To some extent, this was almost certainly pretty widely know throughout the league for a while now.

Great article on the nuggets and their future. Definitely makes me feel better about the Lawson trade.

We just resigned Nelson to be a place holder while Mudiay works his way up to being a starter.

Nelson sucks. I'd rather even go with a cheapie like Huertas at this point.

Nelson is a former All-Star who has great professionalism and talent, bashing him is just a stupid idea. I support the re-signing of Nelson, he'll be a great mentor for Mudiay.

Maybe you should hang out with Stunnin' Stan, you two can discuss his love for Stanley Johnson and your Euro-player devotion

Nuggets aren't at the stage where we're ready to think about competing in the West....if that's what you meant.

Hard to say what stage the Nuggets are in. Why sign Chandler and Gallo, if they are tanking? Seems to me that whatever scheme was being considered all changed when Mudiay fell to them. They had to trade Lawson and they had to keep Gallo. Except for better play from the shooting guard position, they are not far away. They have passable to good starters at forward and center.

Mudiay is the key. Certainly, there will be growing pains with him but the talent level is extraordinary. Few players have that level of court awareness and passing ability. I think he starts from day one. He can play in any league and his abilities will be obvious. Still, he must become a better finisher and he needs a good reliable mid range shot. How good can he be, we will see. Same for the Nuggets.
Canned in Denver.

Now that the dust has settled, it feels like a burden has been lifted. Liked Ty's basketball game, hated all his other games. Wishe Ty well and hope he gets the help he needs. HOU will be a good place for him, hope he's as good to HOU.
